Biography: His father was stationed in Okinawa as part of the U.S. Air Force when he was born. Signed in July, 2009. Struckout 15 in a game to tie a team record and to set a new maek for foreign pitchers (9/5/2009 against Chunichi at Niigata Prefectural Stadium, going 8.2 innings). And thanks to the fact that he couldn’t start due to a lineup card screw up, it is the most strikeouts ever in a relief appearance, the first time a reliever had struckout at least one hitter in every inning of a nine inning game and it tied a team simgle game record held by Kazuhiko Endo. Started on Opening Day, 2010, the first time in team history that a foreigner had ever done that in the history of the franchise. Unfortunately, he lost and ended up getting off to a terrible beginning and then pulled an oblique muscle in May, missing the next five weeks. He pitched somewhat better after that, but then got sent down in August for good because team management wanted to give some of the young hurlers some experience before he was released at the end of the schedule. Biography: Also Pitched for the China Trust Whales in the CPBL at one time. Suffered two stress fractures of an ankle shortly after the all star break and continued to pitch through the end of the regular and post season while using pain killers to dull the pain, making Curt Shilling’s tale of the bloody sock seem like nothing. Had surgery to fix it during the 2005 offseason and asked to be released because he wanted to test the market. Was picked up by Orix and then had shoulder problems in 2006 and broke a finger in 2007. His main problem, though, was that his command the last two seasons was horrible. He and new manager Terry Collins also didn’t get along and it was decided to release him in July, 2007. He signed with Colorado and tested positive for a performance enhancing substance, claiming that he had used them in Japan, too, but NPB authorities said they knew nothing about it and declined to investigate the matter. |

Biography: Joined Lotte in mid-season in 2001. Set a Yomiuri team record for most appearances in a season (2005). Put on waivers by Yomiuri pretty much solely due to a managerial change despite the club’s considerable bullpen problems. Was then taken by Rakuten, but the two sides failed to get together on a contract and he was released on the condition that he seek a job in MLB and not with another Japanese team. He was subsequently picked up by San Diego. Because of injuries in the bullpen, Yakult them came calling in May,. 2007 and signed him away from Cleveland. Released at the end of the season and was scooped up by Lotte. Did not give up an earned run the second half of 2008. Could not get together with Lotte on a new contract after the 2009 season and was picked up by Seibu. Selected to two all star teams (2009-2010). Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

Joined Haitai in 1985, leading the KBO in wins five times, saves twice, strikeouts five times, and ERA seven times.Won three MVPs. Registered a save in one game without facing an official batter when he came on with two outs in the ninth inning against Yokohama and, with Motonobu Tanishige up at bat, threw a pitch that catcher Takeshi Nakamura couldn’t handle. Takahiro Saeki attempted to score from third on the passed ball, but he was nailed at the plate for the final out (4/4/1997 at Nagoya Dome). Selected to one all star team (1997). After retiring from Chunichi, he had overtures from Boston, but the two sides couldn’t get together on contract terms. He then went to work in the KBO’s public relations department. |
