Biography: Was originally brought in as a setup man, but when Kazuhiro Sasaki showed that he was wached up, Kroon was moved into the closer’s role. He also studied Japanese pitchers and learned to throw the forkball after coming to Yokohama and also improved his control with help from manager Kazuhiko Ushijima, a former closer himself. Has reportedly had a history of elbow trouble and so they have tried as much as possible to limit him to one inning. First man in NPB history to be clocked at 99mph (5/11/2005 against Rakuten at Miyagi Prefectural Stadium to Yosuke Takasu with two outs in the ninth). He then hit 100mph later in the season (7/19/2007 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium on the sixth pitch to Norihiro Akahoshi in the 12th inning). Said he wanted a two year contract with the Bay Stars and would retire after that, but they couldn’t agree on a salary and contract provisions and so he was released, whereupon he signed with Yomiuri. First Giants pitcher to lead the league in saves in 15 years (2008). Was dogged by injury in 2009, but still had a great year. He and Yomiuri couldn’t agree on a salary for 2011, so he signed a minor league deal with San Francisco that offseason. Selected to four all star teams (2005-2008). Almost never eats Japanese food and is said to eat mainly hamburgers, pizza and spaghetti. Was given his nickname by then Yokohama infielder Seiichi Uchikawa. Is just the second man in NPB history to register a save against 12 teams. Reference: Wikipedia Japan Official Homepage |

Biography: Racked up two wins titles and a Fireman of the Year Award with the LG Twins. Had a history of shoulder trouble even before coming to Japan. Was posted to the major leagues by LG, but when Boston won the bidding with just a $600,000 offer, they pulled him off the market. Lee still wanted to play in themajor leagues and persuaded his team to allow him to go to Japan to prove himself. Joined Chunichi at the end of April, 1998. His career in Japan got off to an inauspicious beginning when the first hitter he faced in his debut, Daisuke Motoki, took him over the rightfield wall. Was initially a starter ion 1999, but due to his health issues, was put in the bullpen the second half of the 1998 season. He was left off the Japan Series roster because he declared that he would go to MLB in 1999. Was signed by Boston adter leaving Chunichi, thsu becoming the first man ever to have played in the KBO, NPB and MLB (2000). Was later then picked up by Oakland, who released him, and he returned to the KBO before retiring to become a rock singer. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

Biography: Played with Haitai and Samsung in the KBO and had been part of Korea’s olympic baseball squad at Sydney. He was posted during the 2002 offseason to MLB, but there was no interest. Became a free agent in 2004, but again, no interest from either MLB or NPB, so he stayed with Samsung. Had elbow problems in 2005. Asked for and received his release during the 2007 offseason and was signed by Yakult in a two year deal worth $300,000 per plus incentives. Became the first man in NPB to rack up 30 saves in his first season since 2000 and was just the third all time. Named to Korea’s WBC contingent in 2009, where he did well as the team’s closer, though often hitting 95 or more on the gun despite being a sidearmer. However, he was also the losing pitcher in the final. Became just the second man in Japanese history to eclipse 100mph in a regular season game (5/15/2009 against Hanshin at Meiji Jingu Stadium in the ninth inning). Selected to two all star teams (2009-2010). Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

Biography: Reportedly clocked at 93mph as a 15 year old, Yomiuri signed him to a taxi squad deal with the blessing of his parents and the reputed guidance of his junior high coach, Wang Wu-hsiung, and that country’s WBC head coach Lin Hua-wei, in September, 2006 before he even entered high school. How much money the Giants spread around to make this happen and keep him out of the hands of MLB scouts is unknown. Played with Taiwan’s under 16 national team. Took correspondence courses in Tokyo to satisfy high school requirements. Did not play in the mnors for the Giants at all in 2006 or 2007. In 2009, was signed to a new deal that paid him a $100,000 signing bonus and a $44,000 a year salary. He then attended a university in Taiwan during the 2009 offseason. He was added to Yomiuri’s regular roster in July, 2010. Three quarter delivery out of which his fastball has been reportedly clocked as high as 98mph, but still has marked control issues. In his NPB debut, walked two, endured two stolen bases and unleashed two wild pitches during two hitless innings in which he surrendered an earned run on 33 pitches and was clocked at a high of 92mph. He was sent back down to the minors afterward. He has also been said to be more or less proficient in Japanese now, too. Reference: Taiwan Baseball Wikipedia Japan Official Homepage |
