Biography: Was turned into a closer in 2005. But pulled a groin muscle in May, 2006 when his foot slipped on a rain soaked mound at Chiba Marine Stadium and got Wally Pipped by Katsuhiro Nagakawa. When he came back, he was put back in the rotation. Was released because of what the front office felt was a high salary. Signed by Kansas City after leaving Japan. The Royals released him after the 2009 campaign and he was re-signed by Hiroshima in April, 2010. However, he was ineffective and spent most of the second half in the minors. Fastball clocked as high as 94mph with a curve, changeup and slider. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

Biography: Joined Seibu in late July, 2009. The very first pitch he threw in Japan, which was in a minor league game, was taken out of the yard. But he shut the opposition down afterward and was promoted less than a week later, but he allowed too many inherited runners to score and got hammered by lefties so that was it for his career with the Lions. Japanese thought he looked like actor Daniel Radcliffe. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

Biography: Was unfortunately afflicted with the baseball equivalent of a stagefather. There was substantial MLB interest in Chang before he decided to sign with the Lions. Set a Japan record with at least one strikeout in each of 28 consecutive innings (7/21-8/12/2002). His success in 2002 made him something of a celebrity back home. Unfortunately, the fall would then come with a bad 2003. Tossed a one hitter (6/14/2003 against Lotte). Was part of Taiwan’s contingent for the 2004 Athens Olmpic Games and made starts against Canada and Italy, but didn’t pitch that well due to command problems. His hard headedness, though, made it difficult for coaches to work with him on curing his inconsistency. He then injured his shoulder and it cost him his fastball, making his outpitch, a changeup, not very effective. He was victimized for back to back to back rockets against Lotte in September, 2004 and that was the last straw, as he never saw any more time at the top level again because he was just too homer prone.. Released after the 2006 season. Selected to one all star team (2004). |

Biography: Started playing organized baseball as a ten year old little leaguer. Signed by the Angles in May, 1989, but they released him in March, 1990. He ended up at the Carp’s academy in the Dominican Republic and joined Hiroshima in 1992. He was released at the end of the season and went to Taiwan, where he played in that country’s pro league with the Eagles and was then re-signed by Hiroshima before the 1995 season. He was the first foreigner ever to throw a shutout in his first Japanese start. Had a no hitter going with two outs in the ninth against Hanshin before Teruyoshi Kuji doubled to spoil it (5/18/1996 at Koshien Stadium 2-0). After a successful 1995 campaign, he sought a big raise, which was refused by the Carp front office. This lead to a lot of public relations and legal wrangling. Had two walkless complete games lifetime. He played one more year and was relased, whereupon he signed with Boston. Hre hurt his elbow in A ball, but kept on and eventually worked his way to a couple of cups of coffee at the big league level. Was released and signed with Detroit and then L.A, which didn’t work out, either and he was released. |

Biography: Didn’t begin playing baseball until he was 19 due to being a soccer goalkeeper in his youth. However, on the recommendation of his father, he tried out at the Yankees academy and was clocked at 91mph, so he signed with New York for $2,000. After playing for several MLB organizations, he attended Hanshin’s fall camp in 2004 and was signed. Was registered in NPB as “Darwin” because his last name has an element in it that suggest to Japanese ears of being fired. Plus Darwin suggests evolution. Played briefly in 2008 with SK of the KBO. |
