Played some third and first in the minors and even some outfield in 2007 in addition to catching, where he had a good showing at the plate. Made the big club out of spring training of 2008, but was subsequently released at the end of the campaign and picked up by Chunichi after a tryout. Made the Dragons roster out of spring training Reportedly has a strong arm and a quick release, but needs to work on blocking balls in the dirt. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Was a pitcher in high school and was reportedly clocked in the high 80’s. Played in two Koshien Tournaments, winning it all in the first one (spring, summer 2002). Slugged a total of 21 homers as a schoolboy. Drafted on the first round (2002). Has played every infield position in the minors, but has been held back by suspect glovework despite decent plate numbers. So they tried him at catcher in 2008 and he is still registered at that position. Is married with a daughter. Still a current player. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Born into a family that runs a well known ramen restaurant in his hometown. Was introduced to baseball by his father at age four, but played soccer in elementary school and thus didn’t begin to play organized ball until he entered junior high, where he went from being an outfielder to a pitcher in ninth grade. Was reportedly a fan of Hanshin third baseman Masayuki Kakefu. Became his high school’s ace and team captain his junior year. Drafted on the second round (1994). Won an Eastern League steals title (1996). Broke his right pinky finger in June, 1998. Nevertheless, became the first player to win the Rookie of the Year his fourth year after being signed in 27 years and only the second in history. His 658 consecutive chances without an error is a Pacific Legaue record (4/5/1998 against Nippon Ham-9/6/2000 against Lotte). Had his number switched from 51 to 31 so as to not get compared to Ichiro. Spent most of 2005 on the disabled list with an elbow injury. He was also named his club’s players association rep. Released at Ozeki’s request in November, 2005 after he and the team couldn’t come to an agreement on salary for 2006 so that he could take a shot at MLB. Signed by Milwaukee, but they bungled the immigration requirements and released him, whereupon he was signed by Yomiuri. Missed touching third base on the front end of a Seung-yeop Lee homer and the dinger was thus wiped off the board and ruled a single, the first time in history that a jack has been canceled due to a baserunner ahead of the homer hitter failing to touch a bag (6/11/2006 against Lotte at Chiba Marine Stadium. He had previously been called out for failing to touch a base (6/25/1999 against Daiei). Released by Yomiuri after the 2007 season and picked up by Yokohama after a tryout. Married to an actress. His favorite word is “yume (dream).”
