Biography: His father was a Buddhist priest and Naoki the oldest son and helped his father with temple ceremonies. Started playing baseball in second grade. Close childhood friend of teammate to be Kazumi Saito. Was recruited by PL Gakuen, which is affiliated with the Soka Gakkai Busshist sect, butMatoba didn’t think he could get along there and decided on Uenomiya High instead. Became the regular backstop his junior year of college and was team captain as a senior. Drafted on the third round (1999). Said he would give his signing bonus to help rennovate the temple his family worked at. Matoba caught Saito’s first career big league win and once Kenji Johjima left for Seattle Matoba was more or less Saito’s personal backstop and the pair were named the Best NPB battery of the year. Matoba has gone the Uekcer route in making fun of his personal lack of a stick. Reportedly resembles current teammate Tetsuya Matoyama to the point that the Hawks announcers have trouble telling them apart during broadcasts. Released at the end of the 2009 season and signed by Lotte after a tryout. Official Blog   Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Has been nearly deaf in his right ear since childhood. Began playing catcher in junior high. Drafted on the fourth round (1993). Lead the league in percentage of runners thrown out attempting to steal twice (1997, 1999). In fact, because of his handling of pitchers and defense he forced Koichi Isobe to be moved to the outfield even despite his anemic bat. Traded to Softbank during the 2007 offseason. Reportedly speaks english wel enough to communicate with foreign pitchers without an interpreter. 1000th game (5/1/2008 against Seibu at Seibu Dome, the 31st catcher in NPB history to that mark). Selected to two all star teams (1999, 2002). Became a catching coach with the Hawks after retirement. Married to wife Eriko and has a daughter. Hobby is fishing. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Has a twin brother (Nobuhiro is the slightly younger of the two) who has pitched in the industrial leagues. Played shortstop in high school and clubbed 60 homers for his career there. Cracked 15 dingers for his career in college, winning a homer title and acting as team captain. Drafted on the first round (2005). Began the 2006 schedule as the regular third baseman, but found big league pitching tough to solve and he had trouble with snaring ground balls as well and was sent to the minors that June, where he langushed for the rest of the year. Tore up the minors in 2007 and had a solid campaign at the top level after being promoted in mid-season and then blossomed in 2008, connecting for the only homer that Rakuten ace Hisashi Iwakuma have up to a PL player that season. Suffered a broken finger on his righthand on Opening Day, 2009 sliding back into first on a pickoff play and was out until June. He then suffered a fractured wrist upon being struck there by a pitch from Lotte hurler Yuki Karakawa, ending his season. Broke his wrist in May, 2010 and was out six weeks. Married to Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting announcer Eri Shibata. Decent power with a strong arm and average speed.  Official Homepage  Reference: Wikipedia Japan
