Team Reports

Seibu
Daisuke Matsuzaka will be called up this weekend and after making some appearances in a setup role, he will start on July 2nd against Nippon Ham and on the eighth against Daiei. He did some longtossing during his workout Thursday.

Closer Kiyoshi Toyoda's back is feeling better and he should be able to pitch this weekend against Lotte.

Slugger Alex Cabrera said during batting practice Thursday that he wants to be back in the lineup by the 21st, but his doctor hasn't yer cleared him to play. Manager Tsutomu Itoh emphasiszed that they

intend to take it easy with their big gun. Cabrera think's he's at about 70-80%. If you want to get a look at the big Venezuelan's surgery scar and aren't fainthearted, you can see a pic HERE.

13 is pitcher Fumiya Nishiguchi's number. So on the 13th, if your last name is Nishiguchi or your first name is Fumiya (or if you are a woman with "Fumi" in your name using the same character for taht as Nishiguchi does), the first 200 of you lot get in free and get seats in the infield portion of the stands. You must have identification to prove it.

Kintetsu
First baseman Yuji Yoshioka can walk normally again after Achilles tendon surgery and rehab. Now he hopes that he can work himself back into game shape before the end of the season. He might want to ask Hiroshima outfielder Tomonori Maeda about that, as he has  suffered TWO severed Achilles tendon injuries over the years and had what should have been a hall of fame career sidetracked. This is no small thing to fool around with.

Lotte
In some dispiriting news for the ballclub, Tomohiro Kuroki was taken off the roster after having pain in his elbow. Manager Bobby  Valentine doesn't expect that it will be anything serious, but they won't know for sure until the results of the tests come back.

Orix
There is talk emerging that lefthander Koo Dae-Sung may be moved to either Yokohama, Daiei or Hanshin, though a Hochi Sports reporter got a quote from a Hanshin official saying that Koo is too
old for them to be interested. Koo is currently toiling in the minors after expressing dissatisfaction at how he was being used and apparently wants to be anywhere else but Kobe. He pitched in a minor game Thursday and went seven innings of four run, six hit ball. Yokohama, which may lose Eddie Gaillard, seems like the most
obvious destination, but we'll see.

The only lefthander in Orix' pen, Tatsuo Kato, has been sent down to the minors due to not performing up to standard. That leaves them with seven right handed relievers.

Too, outfielder Ryota Aikawa has been taken off the roster after he soprained his ankle practicing rundowns.
