Wada Tosses Third Straight Complete Game Victory
Kobe If the Daiei Hawks win the pennant this season, second year lefthander Tsuyoshi Wada could end up being the MVP, as he racked up his third straight complete game victory Friday 6-1 over the Orix Blue Wave at Kobe Green Stadium. With all the problems that the Hawks have had in attempting to get stable performances out of their roster of arms, Wada has been the only one so far to satisfy that demand in the rotation.

Trey Moore started for Orix and walked five and hit a batter, three of whom scored, and now since he isn't getting shiroboshi like he was in April, he may find that his 6.37 ERA and walk rate will have to start coming down from here on in or manager Haruki Ihara will end up having to take remedial measures such as either demoting Moore to the bullpen or the minors.

Daiei was up early, as shortstop Munenori Kawasaki singled to right, with one out in the first leftfielder Pedro Valdez walked and first baseman Nobuhiko Matsunaka singled to center on an 86mph fastball to redeem Kawasaki for a 1-0 lead.

Moore walked a pair in the third, but they were with two gone and Matsunaka struckout to end the threat.

But in the fourth, Moore plunked catcher Kenji Johjima and walked rightfielder Yudai Deguchi. DH Julio Zuleta grounded to first
baseman Jose Ortiz, who threw wide of second it to load the bases. Centerfielder Hiroshi Shibahara grounded to Ortiz, who went to the bag for the out while Deguchi crossed. One out later, second baseman Tadahito Iguchi singled to left to chase Zuleta in and make it 3-0.

Another Daiei insurrection begam with a one out free pass to Valdez in the fifth. Matsunaka singled to center. One out later, Deguchi doubled into the leftcenter gap for two RBIs. Zuleta singled to left to welcome Deguchi home and it was 6-0 Hawks.

Daiei created more trouble in the sixth, when Iguchi got aboard on a one out error by third baseman Manabu Satake, Kawasaki singled to left and Valdez singled to right. But Matsunaka grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to kill the opportunity off.

Orix finally posted its lone run in the seventh on a single to left by leftfielder Yoshitomo Tani, a double off the leftfield wall by rightfielder Roosevelt Brown and a ground ball to short by Ortiz that made it 6-1 Daiei.

Wada had some problems in the ninth, as Tani got aboard due to an error and, two outs later, Hidemitsu Saito singled to right. But DH Takeshi Yamasaki struckout on a high fastball for the game's final out.

The Lions are reportedly considering having Alex Cabrera's entire
body insured against injury. Since the slugger makes 400 million
yen (about $3.6 million), it will cost them a 40 million yen premium per year.
