Team Reports

Daiei
Daiei supermarkets president Kunio Takagi indicated that they intend to hold on to the Hawks ballclub at a stockholders meeting Thursday.

Will Daiei sign more foreign players this year? They have sent a

couple of scouts there with an eye of perhaps making another acquisition or two. Hector Mercado hasn't worked out so far and Lindsay Gulin has had some rough last few outings.

Seibu
Righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka's projected June 3rd return to the Lions roster may be put off. Matsuzaka played catch Thursday, but  that was about it.

Lotte
Manager Bobby Valentine enthused over a relief appearance that touted Matsushita Electric prospect Yasutomo Kubo made Thursday in a practice game with the Shonan Sea Rex, Yokohama's farm club.  Kubo worked two shutout innings and struckout four while being clocked at 92mph. "I would like to see him come pitch for us," Valentine told reporters.

Nippon Ham
The Fighters are reportedly looking at 24 year old righthander Hayato Kiyono (it might be Seino, I'm not sure; it can be read either way) for the November draft. He is currently playing in the industrail elagues with Japan Rail's Hokkaido branch. He has been clocked at 91mph. The team would like to find somebody from Hokkaido that hty can use as a marketing tool, so this has furthered the interest in that island's born and bred Kiyono.  The Fighters front office will also make a big play for lanky righthander Yu Darvish of Tohoku High School. Darvish has been rumored to have had offers made to him from MLB teams, but he will wait until the summer scuedule ends before making a final decision as to whether he will go to MLB or stay in Japan.
