1998: NPB Commissioner Ichiro Yoshikuni, Central League chairman Hiromi Kawashima and Pacific League chairman Kazuo Harano meet and decide the final disposition of the players involved in a tax evasion scandal. Daiei third baseman Hiroki Kokubo is suspended for eight weeks and pitcher Hidekazu Watanabe and Orix catcher Takashi Miwa are suspended for seven weeks, Yokohama outfielder Toshio Haru is suspended for six weeks, Chunichi pitcher Hiroshi Yamada is suepnded for five weeks, and Yakult pitcher Tetsuya Kitagawa and shortstop Shinya Miyamoto, along with Yokoham infielder Takashi Manei and catcher Yoshifumi Kawasaki are all suspended four four weeks. Also earning a four week suspension was Chunichi infielder Yusuke Torigoe. The fines engendered ranged from 700,000-4 million yen. Other unnamed players are suspended for three weeks and fined 500,000 yen.

However, when he came back to Japan, there was some kind of conflict in his family and he never played ball after the Japan pro league started. The team itself finished with a record of 75-34-1 playing mostly against minor league and semipro teams.

1935: In a San Francisco hotel lobby conversation, San Francisco Seals manager Lefty O'Doul suggests that the Japanese all star team's name is unwieldy. The end result is that it becomes the Tokyo Giants. O'Doul had ended his MLB career after the 1934 campaign as a member of the New York Giants. Thus, the name.
