Biography: Idolized by a guy named Ichiro Suzuki while Ichiro was still a schoolboy. "He was no suketto. He was a member of the team," said teammate Senichi Hoshino. Unlike a lot of other foreign players, he didn't beg off drills and he didn't drink or smoke. His teammates taught him to play Mahjong. Homered in five straight games (5/27-6/2/1984).Tore his ring finger up while sliding back into second on a pickoff throw against Yomiuri in 1985 with just a few games left in the season and it then got infected. That and his age led to the decision to release him Selected to one all star team (1982). After leaving Japan, coached with the Angels and eventually became manager of the Oakland A's.

Biography: Helped both Kintetsu and Yakult win their first ever pennants. Had ten hits in consecutive official at bats to set a then Central League record and to tie a pro yakyu record (6/1-6/5/1978). Was hit in the jaw, fracturing it in seven places, and had surgery on it as a result, causing him to miss two months (6/9/1979 against Lotte at Nihon Seimei Stadium from Soroku Yagisawa on an 0-1 count). In his first at bat after rehabbing it, cracked a two run single on the first pitch he saw (8/4/1979). Reached base in ten straight plate appearances (6/1-6/5/1978). Homred in five straight games twice (5/23/-5/27/1979, 6/3-6/7/1981). Managed in the minors after leaving Japan before taking the manager's job with Cleveland. Credits his time in Japan with teaching him a lot about coaching techniques.

Biography: Marcano once told a reporter that his great grandfather was Japanese. There has been no definitive proof of this assertion, though. 1000th game (5/27/1983 against Chunichi at Nagoya Stadium). 200th homer (9/4/1983 against Hanshin at Sapporo Maruyama Stadium, the 42nd man to that mark). Selected to five all star teams (1975-1976, 1978-1980). Marcano's manager, Toshiharu Ueda, said that if he hadn't had Marcano, the team's three straight Japan Series titles would have been impossible. Went 10-28 in the 1976 Japan Series. Translated and scouted for Yomiuri after retiring. Died of cancer.

Biography: Second player ever to slug a grand slam in his debut Japanese at bat, but the first to do it on Opening Day (against Seibu at Seibu Stadium off of Taigen Kaku with nobody out in the top of the first). Had knee problems in May and left for the states to have it treated, returning on July 29th. He got hot and then his knee flared up again and that was that. One MLB agent once said that he would like to shoot whoever came up with the idea of sending Mitchell to Japan because mentally he was just such a bad fit for that kind of environment. Was paid 400 million yen, leading fans and writers to call hm "kyuryo dorobo (paycheck thief)." Signed with Boston after leaving Daiei and then came down with diabetes.

| Biography: Was recommended to Hanshin by Andy Sheets and they signed him to a two year, $1 million per contract with a $500,000 signing bonus. His 214 hits in 2010 set a new NPB single season record, eclipsing the old mark of 210 by Ichiro Suzuki (in fact, Murton tied Ichiro's mark on his birthday, 10/3/2010 against Hiroshima at Matsuda Stadium) . Also reached base in 15 straight games at one stretch. His first homer in Japan completely left the yard, where the ball was picked up by a pedestrian, who sent it over to the team's hotel. He was the first Tigers foreigner to make the all star team his first season in 50 years. Also holds the team record for multihit games in a season. 200th hit (9/23/2010 against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome off of Kazuki Yoshimi, a solo homer). 211th hit (10/5/2010 against Yakult at Meiji Jingu Stadium in the second inning off of Masato Nakazawa, a single to center in his second plate appearance of the game). He is just one of three players ever to notch 200 hits and 100 runs scored in a season. His .349 average in 2010 was the highest ever for a foreign player in his first year in NPB. His 24 three hits more games in 2010 tied a record for foreign players. His 30 game hit streak in 2011 was a Tigers and foreign player record and is the fourth best all time. Became so well liked in Osaka that the Family Mart convenience store chain celebrated him with a bento box called "Family Murton." Selected to two all star teams (2010-2011).
