Had threee homer games on back to back days, likely a pro baseball world record (8/10-8/11/2005 against Rakuten at Kobe Green Stadium). Had some injuries, but also took a cellphone call in the middle of practice once during the 2006 season and got a lot of negative press attention for it both in Japan and in his native Mexico. Once took the mound during practice and uncorked a fastball clocked at 94mph. Signed by Philadelphia after leaving Japan. |

Biography: Injured his wrist and it caused him to miss a substantial chunk of the season. Tested positive for clobenzorez, amphetamine and paradoxy amphetamine (all ingredients in greenies) use after a postgame urine test on April 30th and was suspended for a year beginning in late May. Gonzalez himself claimed that the positive result may have been from rheumatism medicine he was taking. Uh huh. The Giants then decided to vacate his deal with them. Gonzalez had reportedlky used "stimulants" in 2003 and 2004, but denies having taken greenies during that period. He was the seocnd man ever to have failed an NPB drug test and the first to lose his job over the issue. NPB authorities also reported the findings to thw Japanese National Police.

Biography: Was signed to a two year contract for 360 million yen plus incentives, the most that Hanshin had ever paid anybody. He was also ensconsed in a 200 tsubo 3 LDK luxkury apartment at club expense. After joining Hanshin, injured his lower back four days into spring training and returned to the U.S. to get treated. He then returned to Japan on April 30th and rejoined Hanhin on May third. However, he fractured a foot a week later by fouling a ball off of his foot and retired. He took the considerable money he made with Hanshin and built an amusement park in Florida called Greenwell Fan Park with it.

Biography: Was doing very little in the beginning of the season except walking alot. He then found his power stroke and nearly won a homer title. Only second man in history to suffer two HBP in an inning (8/1/2007 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium in the fifth inning, the first off the elbow by Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi and the second on his back by Minoru Iwata). Suffered an elbow injry during a play at the plate in April, 2008 and it dogged him the remainder of the campaign, necessitating surgery after season's end. Was involved in the first use of instant replay in Japan when a deep fly ball he hit was initially judged to have carromed off the top of the wall and back in play, but that judgment was appealed and it was confirmed Guiel had hit into the seats (3/27/2010 against Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome in the ninth inning off of Norihito Kaneto, a two run jack to center and his first homer of the season). However, he had some back problems after that and it hampered his play, especially at the plate. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Mostly known in MLB for being part of the trade that sent him, Jose DeMaestri and Roger Maris to the Yankees for "Marvelous Marv" Throneberry, Don Larsen, Norm Siebern and Hank Bauer in 1959. Joined Nankai in May, 1962. First foreign player ever to homer in his first at bat in Japan and the fifth overall. Hammered a sayonara homer to right in game four of the Japan Series to even it at two games apiece (1964 off on a high fastball from Minoru Murayama). Selected to one all star team (1963). He then had another Japan Series walkoff jack against Yomiuri in the 14th inning of game five off of Kunio Jonouchi (1966). Said he was really happy with his baseball career because he got to play for three Hall of Fame managers, Rod Dedeaux, Casey Stengel and Kazuto Tsuruoka.

Biography: With Yakult down 2-1 during the Japan Series and two outs in the top of the ninth in game four, he slugged a two run homer to ultimately enable the Swallows to win it 6-5. He called it the most unforgettable moment of his pro career (10/18/1978 against Hankyu off of Yutaro Imai). Had a Japan record six straight games with at least one double (4/1-4/8/1978). Tied the Japan record for most first inning leadoff homers in a season with eight (1978). Played on one all star team (1978). Left Hanshin in May after slumping and amid a firestorm of controversy due to fans wanting number one draft choice Akinobu Okada to play second. Okada went on to win Rookie of the Year. Played with the Portland Beavers after leaving Japan before managing in the U.S. minors, coaching in Taiwan and scouting for Minnesota.
