Biography: Homered in six straight games to tie a Pacific League record (8/2-8/8/1985). Drove in nine runs in a game (4/28/1987 against Hankyu). Was hit by a pitch from Osamu Higashio and charged the mound and punched Higashio's lights out, earning him a ten day suspension and a 100,000 yen fine (6/13/1986 against Seibu). Davis's apartment in Osaka was raided by the local police andthey found 14 grams of pot and some pipes, leading to his arrest (6/7/1988). After a three week interrogation process, Kintetsu released him. That kind of social penalty provoked prosecutors to not charge him with a crime. He was paid his entire salary and he returned to the states, ending his career. Selected to one all star teams (1987).

Biography: Family fled Cuba when Orestes was six, making it to Mexico and then ultimately arriving in New York. Replaced Ty VanBurkleo on the Lions roster in June, 1989 primarily because he was a switch hitter. "That he hit for power was a happy coincidence," then manager Masaahiko Mori was quoted as revealing. Hammered a walkoff homer to end a nine game losing streak 6/16/1990 agaijnst Daiei). Cracked a grand slam and a three run homer in pennant clinching game (10/3/1991 against Nippon Ham at Seibu Stadium). Left Seibu after the 1992 season to play for the Florida Marlins. He was released in May, 1994 and he rejoined Seibu the following season. Took the mound with two outs in the ninth inning of a game against Orix, being touched for a triple and two walks before he was yanked. It was the first time in 17 years since a position player had taken the mound for Seibu. (5/9/1995 at Toyama Alpen Stadium)). Was the first foreigner to win three straight homer titles. Was first man ever to homer in his first Japan Series at bat in three straight series (he hit them off of Hiromi Makihara, Shinji Sasaoka and Yoichi Okabayashi respectively). He left Seibu, though, due to divorce proceedings that were initiated by his then wife. Selected to one al star team (1992). He has done promotional work for Tampa Bay as well as some broadcasting for ESPN and other media outlets since he retired.

Biography: Was thought by the Japanese press to resemble Sylvester Stallone, thus his nicknames. Injured two Daiei players in a brawl arising out of being hit by a pitch. But he also injured his hand and was out for ten days. Was surprised by how dirty Kawasaki Stadium was and vowed to hit enough homers so that enough fans would come to the park and conceal the grime. Caught 15 games in 1990. It had been 12 years since a foreigner had caught in Japan. Selected to one all star team (1989). Released in June, 1992. Had hoped to end his career in Japan, but he went into a slump and was released.

Biography: The expectations on Dillon were more than perhaps he could actually deliver. They gave him departed popular slugger Kazuhiro Kiyohara's old number to boot, so when he started having back problems and didn't hit it only made things worse. He tried to do what he could to fit in, but it just didn't happen for him on the field.

Biography: Spent a productive season with SK in the KBO before signing with Lotte. The big knock on him throughout his career was that he had a dubious glove and he did little to dispell that in Japan. Released by Lotte just because they felt they needed a change of scenery with its foreign lineup and he was quickly snapped up by Seibu. After the 2005 season, Fernandez and Seibu couldn't agree on his salary for 2006 and let him go. He was signed by Rakuten. Lead the PL in errors at both first and third during a 2007 campaign, the first time in history that has happened. Relaxed by the Eagles after his power production all but disappeared during the second half and was subsequently scooped up by Orix. Suffered a fractured toe toward the end of spring training, 2009 and then broke a cheekbone fielding a shot at third in mid-September, 2009 and missed the rest of the season. 100th homer (5/21/2006 against Yomiuri off of Jeremy Powell at Miyagi Prefectural Stadium in the seventh inning, a solo jack to left). 100th hit (9/7/2010 against Nippon Ham at Seibu Dome in the fourth inning off of Bobby Keppel, a single to center). Played in the Mexican League with the Quintana Roo Tigers in 2010 after his release by Orix. But in June, Seibu came calling and signed him, where he had his second best NPB campaign of his career OPS-wise. Selected to one all star team (2006). Is well liked by both teammates and fans personalitywise. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: He said that playing in Japan taught him patience. Was paid 100 million yen per year on a two year deal that allowed him to dissolve it at anytime if he got any MLB offers. Got his nickname from his teammates after he slammed a shot off a Godzilla billboard at the rear of the leftcenterfield seats in Tokyo Dome. Ripped three homers in a game, one of them completely exiting the ballpark and on to an intersection behind the ballpark (8/13/1989 against Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium). Broke a pinky finger when he tried to do a little bat flip trick against the dirt after striking out (9/13/1989 against Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome). Hanshin then tried to job him down because of his missing the rest of the season and his agent decided to look for an MLB deal. Signed with Detroit after leaving Japan and became one of the American League's premier sluggers.

Normally, I don't have that much sympathy for players who don't do well, but my semse of J.J.'s time with Yokohama was that they couldn't decide where they wanted him in their plans and so he never reallly showed what he could do.
