Biography: Failed a tryout with Chunichi out of high school, so he went to the industrial league. His 47 doubles in 1956 was a then Japan record. Went to Hanshin in a trade for Masaaki Koyama in what was called "the trade of the century" at the time. Batted third in first season in Osaka. Batted cleanup in 1967. Slugged Come from behind walkoff grand slam against the Toei Flyers (8/16/1959) to become the sixth in history to do that. He had three grand slams that season. Had two homers in an inning (10/3/1965) against Hiroshima. Became first player ever to 300 homers (7/4/1965). 2000th hit (10/14/1967 off of Yoshie of the Sankei Atoms to become the second man to that number). First man ever to play in 2000 games (8/2/1968). Selected to 16 all star teams (1954-1966, 1968-1970). Named All Star MVP three times (game two 1954, game one 1955, game one 1959). Is ninth all time in all star runs scored (17), ninth in all star hits (33), fifth in all star homers (8), ninth in all star total bases (59), fifth in all star RBIs (24), and sixth in all star walks (12). His six straight games with at least one double is a Japan record (6/18-6/25/1959). Had a nine RBI game (6/5/1959).  Became batting coach with Hanshin (1975-1976) then head coach (1977). After managing stints, came back as Yomiuri batting coach (1987-1989), and Orix (1991-1993), then went back to Hanshin in the same role (1995-1996) and then coached with the China Trust Whales in Taiwan (1998).Died of a heart attack.

Biography: Was his team's ace pitcher in high school. Played in one Koshien Tournament (spring 1963). Had ten putouts against Nankai (9/1/1968) to set a record for shortstops. Became in 11th in history to hammer come from behind sayonara grand slam against Motoi Kinjo of Nankai (10/3/1979). Hit leadoff first inning homers in back to back games (4/15-16/1980). Had two homers in an inning twice against Nippon Ham (8/7/1980 and 9/1/83) to become the eighth man in history to go yard twice in the same frame. Went six straight games with at least one double in each, a Japan record (7'/29-8/3/1971). Had five hit game (9/26/1980). Struckout for 1000th time (8/1/1980) to become fifth in history to attain that. Drilled 200th homer (4/30/1980). to become the 33rd player in history to that number. Slugged the 4000th homer in Yomiuri team history (9/10/1978 against Hiroshima at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium off of Matsubara). Was involved in a scandal when his relationship with porno actress Rie Tachibana was exposed. Became an enka singer and then went to work for a regular company. He then opened a snack bar.  Wrote a book in 1984 called, "Pants wo Nuida Kyojin-gun (The Giants Caught with Their Pants Down).
