Biography: Oldest son of Shinsaburo Tsuboi. Was a pitcher in Senior League. Also did some relief pitching in high school in addition to patrolling centerfield. Drafted on the fourth round (1997). Batted leadoff for Hanshin as a rookie, compiling the second highest rookie batting average to that time in history and the highest since 1950. It has since been exceeded. Was traded to Nippon for Toshihiro Noguchi, a bad deal for Hanshin. Had Nippon Ham's first hit after they moved to Sapporo (3/27/2004 against Kintetsu off of Hisashi Iwakuma at Osaka Dome, a double to center). Good hitters whose career has been significantly hindered by a string of injuries. Historical footbote: was the first man ever to bat over .300 his first year in each league. He doesn't drink, a rarity among Japanese, let alone players. Released after the 2006 season, but then was re-signed after accepting a big paycut. Selected to two all star teams (2000, 2003).  Official Homepage
Career OPS: .738 HR:AB: 1:95.8
Debut: 4/3/1998 against Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium as a pinch hitter. First Hit (4/11/1998 against Hiroshima off of Makoto Kito), First Homer (7/4/1998 against Hiroshima at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium off of Makoto Kito leading off the first, an inside the park homer, becoming the third man ever to make his first dinger one that didn't clear the fence and the first rookie ever to accomplish it)

Biography: Drafted on the second round (1983). Known as a defensive wizard. Scored from first with two outs in the eight innign on a Koji Akiyama single in game six of the 1987 Japan Series when Yomiuri centerfielder Warren Cromartie was slow in retrieving the ball and then just lobbed the ball into shortstop Masahiro Kawai. Some refer to it as the greatest play ever in the fall classic. Then in game seven of the 1992 Japan Series between Yakult and Seibu and with the score tied 1-1, Tsuji made a stop of a Toru Sugiura bases loaded grounder between first and second and made an off balance, jumping relay to catcher Tsutomu Itoh to get Katsumi Hirosawa at the plate and choke off the Swallows rally. The Lions then won it in the tenth when Tsuji doubled, went to third on an out and then scored on an Akiyama sac fly. His five Best Nine nominations as a second baseman is a Pacific League record. Released after the 1995 season by Seibu due to a salary dispute. 1500th game (6/6/1998 against Hiroshima at Morioka, the 122nd man to that mark). Selected to nine all star teams (1986, 1988-1994, 1996).
