Biography: Played in one Koshien Tournament, cracking two homers (summer 1989). Won  a Triple Crown and an MVP in college. Was part of Japan's olympic team at Atlanta (1996) and Athens (2004). Drafted on the second round (1996). In the same game in which he got his first hit, he also smacked a triple, stole home and drove in four runs. In the early part of his career, was said to have been faster to first than Ichiro. His 52 doubles in 2001 was a then Japan record. His 189 hits in 2003 was a Pacific Leaguer record for righthand hitters. 21 game shitting streak (9/9-10/12/2003). Suffered a back problem in 2005, causing his numbers to tail off badly. He then had an elbow injury in 2006. Traded to Yomiuri during the 2006 offseason. Qualified for free agency in 2007 and decided to stay. Has a right index finger problem that he incurred his rookie year that doesn't allow him to tuck it into his palm. First Japanese player to homer against 13 different teams during his career. 1500th game (4/4/2008 against Hiroshima at Tokyo Dome in a seventh inning pinch hit appearance). 1000th hit (8/19/2003 against Daiei at Fukuoka Dome in the sixth inning off of Masakazu Watanabe, a single to center). 1500th hit (7/1/2007 against Hiroshima at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium in the ninth inning off of Katsuhiro Nagakawa, a single to center). 100th homer (4/22/2007 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium in the eighth inning off of Ryo Watanabe, a two run jack to left). Selected to six all star teams (2001-2004, 2006-2007). The only grand slam of his career was hit during the 2009 Central League playoffs. Married to olympic judo legend Ryoko "Yawara" Tamura, resulting in jokes about who wears the pants in the Tani household. They have two sons together. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Played in two Koshien Tournaments (summer 1987-1988). Belted a total of 42 homers for his high school career. Drafted on the first round (1988). At the outset of his career, had trouble remembering scouting reports, so after having to teach him the same stuff repeatedly, someone nicknames him "Pampers," since babies have to keep having knowledge reinforced. Slugged the 65,000th homer in Japanese history (6/19/1994 against Hanshin). Drilled a sayonara grand slam (7/7/2001 against Yomiuri). Cracked a grand slam in the Japan Series (game three, 2004). Upon gaining free agency after the 2001 season, he attempted to find a job in MLB, but didn't garner any interest. So he signed with Chunichi. Selected to eight all star teams (1993, 1997-2002, 2005). Known as an excellent defensive backstop, throwing out 43% of runners attempting to steal for his career through the end of the 2004 season.. 100th homer (10/3/2001 against Hiroshima at Nagoya Dome in the second inning off of Ken Takahashi). 200th homer (9/1/2009 against Hiroshima at Hamamatsu Stadium). 1000th game (8/25/1998 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium in a start at catcher). 1500th game (8/1/2002 against Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome in a start at catcher). 2000th game (7/26/2006 against Hanshin at Nagoya Dome in a start at catcher, becoming only the fourth catcher ever to reach that mark). 1500th hit (10.9.2006 against Yakult at Meiji Jingu Staidum in the fourth inning off of Masanori Ishikawa, an RBI double to right). His 1708 consecutive chances without an error is a Japan record (ended 8/10/2007). Caught two regular season no hitters and then also caught the combined perfect game in the 2007 Japan Series. Missed a month with a calf injury in 2009. Is second all time in games caught. Is one of just three players all time to have both 200 homers and 200 sacrifices. His hobby is golf. Married to wife Rumi and has two sons. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

His cycle was the first by a Dragons player in 35 years and only the third from somebody on that club all time. Stroked a walkoff grand slam (5/21/2002 against Yakult). Pinch hit grand slam (8/28/2007 against Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium off of Hayato Terahara in the sixth inning). His seven seasons with at least 30 doubles is an all time record. His 712 straight chances without an error as a seconjd baseman was a then Central League record (6/11/1993-6/11/1994; the streak was broken when he couldn't pick a hot shot off the bat of Hideki Matsui). 1000th game (9/21/1996 against Yomiuri at Tokyo Dome in a start at second base). 1500th game (8/29/2000 against Hiroshima at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium in a start st second base). 1000th RBI (8/24/2007 against Hanshin at Nagoya Dome in the fifth inning off of Tsuyoshi Shimoyanagi, a pinch hit RBI single to right. Cracked five hits in a game five times in his career, tying a pro yakyu record (6/30/2006 against Hiroshima at Nagoya Dome). His 93 pinch hit appearances in 2007 is a Japan record. However, he was also accused of drugging and raping a woman during the Japan Series and then enlisting the aid of a bigwig with an organized crime group to try to make it go away. And it eventually did. Tatsunami is also a notorious womanizer. Became a batting instructor with Chunichi after retirement. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
