Biography: Started out playing baseball in a local youth nanshiki  league. Went from being a pitcher to an outfielder in high school. Played in three Koshien Tournaments, winning it all in the third one. He was also team captain his senior year. Slugged 47 homers as a schoolboy. Won two Tokyo Big Six University League batting titles and an RBI crown and was named to two league Best Nines. He also captained the squad his senior year and was named to Japan's national collegiate all star contingent. Finished with a .296 average with 12 homers and 73 RBIs for his university career. His first hit of 2007 was also a homer. Won Eastern League batting, OBP AND SLG titles in 2007. Is reportedly a good defensive first baseman and is patient at the plate. Biography: Pitched and played the outfield in high school. Won a Tokyo Metropolitan University League batting title (1947). Originally signed as a pitcher, but was converted to an outfielder in mid-season, 1952 when he couldn't regain the form he once had after a shoulder injury in 1950. Just missed throwing the first perfect game in Japanese pro history when he gave up a bloop hit with two gone in the ninth inning to Sakae Nakamura (3/16/1950 against Kokutetsu at Kurashiki). Hurt his shoulder and was converted into an outfielder in 1952. Is one of only six men in NPB history to win a game as a pitcher and hit at least 100 homers. Selected to seven all star teams, batting .289 (11-38 HR 6 RBI SB) in 15 total games (1955-1958, 1960-1962). Coached for Chunichi after retirement. After stepping down as Toei's manager, he worked as a baseball commentator and coached with Hanshin. He then moved on to manage in the Taiwan leagues (1994). He has a junior high school tournament named after him. Was a member of the Shimodate city council as well. Died of a stroke.

Biography: Started playing baseball in second grade. Grew up a Taiyo Whales fan  and his favorite player was Carlos Ponce. Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 1993). Hit .442 with 13 homers for his high school career. Jas been an injury magnet since high school. Even injury prone MLB players like Eric Davis and Rusty Greer would feel sorry for this guy, as he seems truly cursed. Drafted on the fourth round (1994). Had season ending shoulder surgery early in 1998. Once hit three grand slams and drove in 19 runs in the space of 11 minor league games. Had a lot of problems with sliders down and away early in his career. Suffered a torn thumb ligament in May, 2003. Finally became a regular player in 2004. Had two four game homer streaks (4/21-4/24/2004 and 6/1-6/4/2004)). Drilled three homers in a game (7/17/2994 against Hiroshima off of Ken Takahashi, Kenta Satake and Masaki Hayashi). Helped speed Dan Miceli's exit from Japan by victimizing him for a walkoff RBI single with two on and one out for his first career sayonara knock (4/5/2005 in the bottom of the 12th; he had just come back from a bout of the flu) and belting a two run sixth inning homer off of him (4/7/2005 at Yokohama Stadium). Became the first Japanese to register a 30 plus homer season for Yokohama in 30 years. His 40 homers in 2004 is the most ever by a Japanese player in the team's history. Hurt his back in June, 2005 and then was was involved in an auto accident (his fault) shortly afterward and missed a couple months due to injuries suffered in it. Namedf to Japan's first ever WBC squad and connected for three homers and drove in nine runs during the tournament (2006). Traded to Softbank during the 2006 offseason. Suffered a broken leg after an outfield collision with a teammate in April, 2008 and was out until September. 100th homer (9/17/2005 against Yomiuri at Yokohama Stadium off of Junya Sakai, a solo jack to right in the eighth; it was also his second homer of the game). Set a career high with seven RBIs in a game (5/4/2005 against Yomiuri, five of the RBIs coming on a two run and a three run homer). Is a superb defensive outfielder with a strong arm.
