Biography: In his debut with the Flyers, he homered on the first pitch he saw in the first inning. However, he didn't get anyone out in the bottom of the frame to get hung with the loss and never saw action with Toei or anyone else again. Talk about ecstacy and agony. Anyway, after being let go, he finished his degree and played in the industrial leagues before managing Kokugakuin University's baseball program. He then gave that up for a job with Nippon Tobacco, eventually working his way up to president of one of its subsidiaries.

Biography: Is a distant relative of Atsuya Furuta. Started out playing softball in third grade after failing to make his school's soccer team. Played nanshiki ball  in junior high. He moved up to baseball in high school and was named team captain as a senior. Played in two Koshien Tournaments (spring, summer 1991). Connected for just seven homers as a schoolboy. Dropped out of college his first month there due to conflicts with older teammates and got a job working at a gas station while continuing to stay in shape after hours. Failed tryouts with Yakult and worked out for Toshiba's industrial league nine before successfully trying out for Nippon Ham. He was then formally drafted on the fifth round (1994). Traded to Yakult one day before the Pacific League's Opening Day, 1998. Dislocated his left elbow in April, 2002 and still can't totally stretch his arm out as a result. Married to TV Tokyo announcer Miho Ohashi. Furuta once reportedly told Shiroishi that while he had good baseball instincts and was basically a likeable guy, that he was too self obsessed. Shiroishi then reportedly changed his act to the point he was named the team's player's union rep. Became a defense and baserunning coach with Yakult after retirement.
