Biography: Father died of an illness when Takahiro was a toddler. Started playing baseball in second grade. Roomed with Hideki Irabu in high school at the team dormitory. Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 1987). Pitched in addition to his usual first base in college. Took two Triple Crowns and four Best Nines during his stint at Osaka Shogyo and was the cleanup hitter for a Japanese collegiate all star squad that fvaced one from the U.S. His 12 career dingers is a Kansai Big Six University record. Drafted on the second round (1992). Had an out called back because of a balk, so on the next pitch, he hit a game tying homer that brought Yokohama front a 7-0 deficit into a 12-12 tie. They later wom the game (7/15/1998 against Yomiuri at Yokohama Stadium off of Hiromi Makihara). Has sucessfully pulled the hidden ball trick three times during his career. However, on one occasion, he did it to then Giants first baseman Kazuhiro Kiyohara. When he went out to the parking lot to get into his car, he discovered that Yomiuri fans had stolen all four of his tires. Undaunted, he took a souvenir photo of it (2001). Had a walk called back when the plate umpire lost track of the count. So on what was actually a 4-2 count and not a full count, he singled to center (9/3/2005 against Hanshin off of Yuya Ando). The umpire was later reprimanded by the league office. 1000th hit (7/16/2004 against Hiroshima at Yokohama Stadium in the second inning off of John Bale, an infield hit). 1500th hit (6/2/2009 against Softbank at Fukuoka Dome in the second inning off of Dennis Houlton, a solo homer to right). 1000th game (6/16/2002 against Yakult at Fukushima Prefectural Azuma Stadium in a start at first base).  1500th game (4/13/2007 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium in a ninth inning pinch hit appearance). Homered off of K-Rod in an NPB-MLB all star game (2004).  100th homer (9/3/2004 against Yakult at Yokohama Stadium in the first inning off of Yuya Kamada, a two run jack). Pulled one heck of a bonehead play when, with the bases loaded in the ninth inning of a a tie ballgame, the infield played up to cut the run off at the plate. The batter grounded to Saeki at first, who, instead of firing it home, leisurely stepped on first while the runners from third and second both scored (8/23/2006 against Yomiuri at Yokohama Stadium). Was subsequently involved in a batter's interference walkoff when he was at the plate in the bottom of the tenth, only the second time that has ever occurred (9/7/2006 against Hiroshima at Shimonoseki Stadium). Incidently, the only other time that happened was in 1975 in a game involving Hanshin and the Taiyo Whales (who are now Yokohama) and the Tigers notched the win. Only one walkoff homer for his career (7/12/2007 against Chunichi off of Rafael Cruz). His lone steal in 2009 was one of home. Selected to three all star teams (1995-1996, 2001). Biography: Was a Hanshin fan growing up and particularly admired shortstop Akinobu Mayumi. Started out playing in Little League and then moved on to Senior League, where he was a pitcher. Became an outfielder in high school. Slugged 39 homers in high school. Played in one Koshien Tournament (spring 1993). There was said to be some major league interest in him. Drafted on the fourth round (1994). Killed righthanders, but was helpless against southpaws. Former Giants minor league manager Kenji Awaguchi once said that Saito is a good fundamental player, but he is gutless. Was hit by a taxi while in a crosswalk and suffered abdominal bruises (1/30/2007). Released after the 2007 season and picked up by Yakult. Released at the end of the 2009 season.

Biography: Started out playing nanshiki ball in second grade with a local youth club. Played in Young League in junior high. Was his team's ace in high school. Played ne two Koshien Tournaments (spring, summer 2001). Drafted on the first round (2002). Was the first player ever from his high school to be drafted by an NPB organization. Immediately moved to the outfield. Went 6-7 with 11 RBIs when the bases were loaded in 2008. Became only the second man in Orix history to have 40 hits in a month (8/2009). The other is Ichiro. Was very aggressive at the plate and thus didn't walk much, but seemed to cure that in 2009. Also lead the PL in outfield assists that season.
