Biography: Played volleyball in junior high school and didn't play baseball until moving on to high school. Drafted on the third round as a pitcher(1968). Was converted into a position player soon after joining the Dragons. Mashed three homers in a game in the minors. Was a notorious lowball hitter. That also is a record for most times with eight total bases in an inning. Slammed a record seven pinch hit homers in a season, including four in June alone, to break old standard of six by Yasuhiro Takai as well as exceed the then MLB record of six by the Dodgers Johnny Fredericks. (1976). Drove in five runs in an inning twice, a Central League record (8/2/1972, 8/9/1977). Had five game homer streak (10/8-17/1979), 2000th hit (8/21/1990, a single to center against Orix off of Yoshinori Sato to become the 25th all time to that figure and was the oldest to attain it. (Hiromitsu Ochiai later became the oldest to 2000 when he did it at age 41 in 1995). Drilled 20 career pinch hit homers, second all time. His 16 pinch hit CL dingers tied a league record. Crushed five lifetime sayonara homers. Had two pinch hit grand slams lifetime (9/18/1991 against Seibu, 5/4/1994 against Seibu). Batted .182 in two Japan Series in 12 total games (1974, 1982). Selected to four all star teams, hitting .308 (4-13) in 12 total games with no homers and two RBIs (1977, 1979, 1983-1984). Was oldest player ever at age 46 when he retired and his 26 years in a pro ball is a record). 24 seasons at the first team level is second all time. Worked for NHK as a baseball commentator (1985-1989). 300th homer (8/15/1986 against Hanshin off of Nakanishi at Nagoya Dome). Selected to four all star teams.

Biography: Mother was Taiwanese while father was an officer in the Japanese military. The father died when Hiroshi was three and the mother ran a small restaurant to make ends meet. Began playing baseball in elementary school. In 1936, the family moved to Kiaohsiung. Oshita was accepted to Meiji University, but was almost immediately drafted afterward. Hiroshi Served in the Japanese Arny Air Corps and was assigned to a Kamikaze squadron (Tokkotai), but his number didn't come up before the war ended.  Was contacted by the Tokyo Senators and signed for 250 yen a month (9/1945). His 20 homers in 1946 were a single season record at the time, ecliping the old 1938 mark of 11 by Haruyasu Nakajima. Broke up a scoreless no hitter in the tenth with a solo jack to right on a 2-0 pitch to win it 1-0 (10/1/1949 against Chunichi). Set a record with seven hits in a game suffering from a hangover after drinking late into the night before due to expecting the game to be rained out. Three of the knocks were doubles and he had 10 total bases. (11/19/1949 against Taiyo at Koshien Stadium in a 22-2 Toei victory). Had a 24 game hitting streak (8/25-10/7/1951). His trademark was his blue bat, with which he slugged majestic home runs, though colored bats were eventually banned in 1947 and he had to switch to a more conventionally shaded stick. He also was known for being quite a party animal and womanizer. His .383 average was highest ever until Isao Harimoto surpassed it in 1970. Selected to six all star teams and went 10-49 in 14 games with no homers and five RBIs and stole a base (1951-1955, 1957). Was named all star MVP (game one, 1957). Coached with Hankyu after retirement as well as working as a baseball commentator for NHK. Became manager of Toei in 1968, where he resigned in the midst of the campaign. Suffered a stroke in 1978 and then committed suicide with sleeping pills (1979).
