| Biography: Mother was Taiwanese while father was an officer in the Japanese military. The father died when Hiroshi was three and the mother ran a small restaurant to make ends meet. Began playing baseball in elementary school. In 1936, the family moved to Kiaohsiung. Oshita was accepted to Meiji University, but was almost immediately drafted afterward. Hiroshi Served in the Japanese Arny Air Corps and was assigned to a Kamikaze squadron (Tokkotai), but his number didn't come up before the war ended. Was contacted by the Tokyo Senators and signed for 250 yen a month (9/1945). His 20 homers in 1946 were a single season record at the time, ecliping the old 1938 mark of 11 by Haruyasu Nakajima. Broke up a scoreless no hitter in the tenth with a solo jack to right on a 2-0 pitch to win it 1-0 (10/1/1949 against Chunichi). Set a record with seven hits in a game suffering from a hangover after drinking late into the night before due to expecting the game to be rained out. Three of the knocks were doubles and he had 10 total bases. (11/19/1949 against Taiyo at Koshien Stadium in a 22-2 Toei victory). Had a 24 game hitting streak (8/25-10/7/1951). His trademark was his blue bat, with which he slugged majestic home runs, though colored bats were eventually banned in 1947 and he had to switch to a more conventionally shaded stick. He also was known for being quite a party animal and womanizer. His .383 average was highest ever until Isao Harimoto surpassed it in 1970. Selected to six all star teams and went 10-49 in 14 games with no homers and five RBIs and stole a base (1951-1955, 1957). Was named all star MVP (game one, 1957). Coached with Hankyu after retirement as well as working as a baseball commentator for NHK. Became manager of Toei in 1968, where he resigned in the midst of the campaign. Suffered a stroke in 1978 and then committed suicide with sleeping pills (1979). |

| Biography: Suffered internal bleeding on the brain after being hit by a pitch as a high school sophomore. His father and older brother both died shortly thereafter and he gave up baseball for a while. He went to Marui and they abandoned their industrial league team in 1964, so the club's manager arranged a tryout with Toei for him. He was signed by Toei after the tryout (1965). Slugged a grand slam off of Yutaka Enatsu in an all star game to win the MVP of that contest (game three 1967). Was ultimately selected to eight all star teams and batted .250 (14-56) with three homers and ten RBIs (1967, 1969-1970, 1972-1974, 1977, 1981). Had a five game homer streak (6/20-26/1969). Had 890 consecutive games played streak (9/21/1968-8/20/1975). Blasted three sayonara homers in a single season to tie a Pacific League record (1969). Collided with Nishitetsu's Carl Boles and after the two jawed for a bit, he punched Boles lights out with a straight righthand. No, he wasn't ejected since the second base umpire said that he never saw the punch (4/28/1970 at Korakuen Stadium). His 15 sac flies in a season is a Japanese record (1970). Was part of a record five consecutive homer barrage against Lotte that halted a nine game losing streak (5/3/1971 in the tenth inning against Lotte). Hammered 15 homers in a month to tie a Japan record (5/1972). After being hit on the elbow by a pitch from Kintetsu's Hiroaki Shibaike, Osugi went out to the mound with the bat in his hand. He was restrained by other players while Shibaike beat a hasty retreat (5/6/1972). Had a six game homer streak that tied a then Japan record but set a new Pacific League standard (10/2-6/1973). In a brawl involving Yomiuri's John Sipin and Swallows pitcher Yasujiro Suzuki, Osugi punched both Sipin and Shigeo Nagashima. Named Japan Series MVP after cranking four homers and driving in ten runs (1978). The third of those dingers, though, was the object of a one hour, 19 minute rhubarb staged by Hankyu manager Toshiharu Ueda in game seven, who claimed it went foul. The decision stood. Then in his next time up, he clouted a big jack to straightaway left off of Hisashi Yamada to help Yakult clinch a 4-0 victory and the series title. Ueda resigned after the series ended. 300th homer (10/11/1975 against Hiroshima at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium, the ninth man to that mark). 400th homer (7/28/1979 against Chunichi at Meiji Jingu Stadium, the sixth man to that mark). 1000th RBI (6/5/1977 against Chunichi at Nagoya Stadium, the 11th man in history to that mark). 1500th game (6/22/1977 against Chunichi at Meiji Jingu Stadium, the 55th man to that mark). 2000th game (7/31/1981 against Taiyo at Meiji Jingu Stadium, the 16th man to that mark). 2000th hit (7/21/1981 against Chunichi off of Komatsu to at Hamamatsu become 14th in history to that mark). 1000th run (9/13/1981 against Yomiuri at Korakuen Stadium, the the 15th man to that mark), Was only man to have 1000 hits in each of both leagues before Ochiai (6/3/1983 against Chunichi at Meiji Jingu Stadium) and was the first man ever to have 1000 hits with each of two different clubs. Had a Pacific League record three sayonara homers in a season (1969). 4000th total base (8/4/1983 against Hiroshima at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium, the seventh man to that mark).1500th RBI (8/21/1983 against Hiroshima at Meiji Jingu Stadium, the the fifth man to that mark).
