Biography: Went from pitching to the outfield as a high school junior. Played in three consecutive Koshien Tournaments (summer 1986, spring, summer 1987). Drafted on the fourth round (1987). Mostly used as a platoon player against lefties. Because of his size, they expected power out of him at the start of his career, but that suppressed his average. Once Hiroki Kokubo joined and he realized he couldn't match Kokubo's longball capability, changed to a spray hitting approach and probably saved his career. The last remaining former Nankai player who was still with the Hawks at that time and he is the last onetime Nankai player still active. Has 15 pinch hit homers lifetime. Traded to Yomiuri during the 2006 offseason after being initially notified him that they intended to release him by phone while he was out shopping with his wife.. 1000th game (4/1/2003 against Kintetsu at Osaka Dome in a start at DH). Selected to two all star teams (2001, 2003). Traded to Yomiuri during the 2006 offseason. Reference: Wikipedia Japan
