Biography: Started playing baseball in second grade. Became a catcher in junior high. Signed outside the draft (1989). Traded to Nippon Ham during spring training of 1998. Became the first catcher in NPB to lead the league in triples since 1950 and was the first in Pacific League annals. Traded to Hanshin during the 2002 offseason. . Caught Kei Igawa's no hitter. Qualified for free agency after the 2004 campaign, but there were no takers. Went to Yokohama via free agency. Biography: Is the youngest son of hall of fame catcher Katsuya Nomura. Began playing baseball in fourth grade in Little League. Won a batting and RBI title at Meiji as a sophomore. Converted into a catcher his junior year in college. Drafted on the third round (1996). Sold to Hanshin in 2000. Sold to Yomiuri during the 2004 season, the Giants hoping that acquiring him would curry favor with his father, who was now managing in the industrial leagues with Shidax and who had a pitcher they wanted named Takahiko Nomaguchi. Nomaguchi did end up signing with Yomiuri, but it is unknown if it was because of the acqusition of Katsunori. Nomura was subesequently released at the end of the schedule and picked up by Rakuten after a tryout. Threw out less than 10% of the runners who tried to steal off of him in 2006 (ioncluding one game where Lotte stole six off of him) and was going to be released, but he retired and became a catching coach with Rakuten.
Career OPS: .498 HR:AB: 1:89.0
Debut: 4/16/1997 against Yokohama in a pinch hit appearance. His fly ball was dropped by leftfielder Takanori Suzuki. It was also the same game in which his father picked up his 1000th lifetime managerial win. First Hit (), First Homer ()
