Biography: Started playing baseball in first grade in Little League. Grew up as a Hanshin fan. Played Senior League ball in junior high. Had wanted to go to major baseball power PL Gakuen when he was younger, but that school wasn't that enthusiastic about him joining their club, so he decided to go to Osaka Toin High instead. Batted cleanup his senior year in high school and was also team captain. Slugged a total of 42 homers for his schoolboy career. Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 2002). Drafted on the first round (2002). Became a switch hitter in 2004.  First player ever to be named at different positions the same year for Best Nine (shortstop) and Gold Glove (second base 2005). Selected to Japan's inaugural WBC squad (2006). Favorite player is Ichiro. Has relatively average speed but has been clocked at 88mph throwing the ball.
