Biography: Started playing baseball in first grade. Batted cleanup in high school. Played in two Koshien Tournaments (summwee (1996-1997). Drafted on the second round as a lottery pick (1998). After homering for his first NPB knock in 2006, his next hit wouldn't come until Auguat, 2007, and that was a homer, too. Biography: His older brother played on a Koshien Tournament winner at Koroyo High. Started playing baseball in fourth grade. Grew up with future Hanshin pitcher Shinobu Fukuhara. Played third and pitched in high school, though his father tragically died in an auto accident when he was a junior. Went to short in college and won a batting title his sophomore year and was named to seven Best Nine squads during his tenure there. Set a league record with 13 homers for his career at Kinki, where he played on a Japanese national champion in 1997. Drafted on the second round, but was widely slammed in Hiroshima for not choosing to play with the Carp (1999). Hit a ball off of a support beam at Nagoya Dome in foul territory and it rebounded into left for a cheap single 5/1/1999 against Chunichi). Belted the 7000th homer in Giants history (8/31/1999 against Chunichi at Tokyo Dome off of Kenshin Kawakami). His walkoff knock decided the 2000 Central League pennant race (9/24/2000 against Chunichi). Career has been hampred by injuries, including a broken hamate bone in 2001, but when healthy, is one of Japan's better inside out hitters. Was the first ever Yomiuri shortstop to top 20 homers in a season (2002). He also set a Japan Series mark that year with three straight games of three hits or more, including a game three grand slam, and was awarded the MVP. Cracked two grand slams in one game (4/30/2006 against Chunichi at Tokyo Dome in his third and fourth plate appearances of the game off of Yuya Ishii and Claudio Galva respectively. He was just the second man ever to do that in a single contest and the first since 1951, but the first ever to do it in consecutive trips to the dish. He would finish with an astounding 10 RBIs on the night). Had a career high 22 game hit streak (2005). Became the 71st cleanup hitter in Giants annals in 2006 and the first shortstop to do it since 1961. 1000th game (5/18/2007 against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome). 1000th hit (6/2/2007 against Seibu at Seibu Dome in the fifth inning off of Satoshi Yamazaki, a three run homer to left). Had an affair during an injury filled in 2008 with freelance tv announcer Mona Yamamoto. Yamamoto lost her job with Fuji Sankei TV over it. Nioka was given a severe reprimand and a team spokesman torched him in the club's public apology to reporters, but he received no other punishment. However, they subsequently moved him in a big mulitplayer deal during the 2008 offseason to Nippon Ham. Think of it as a kind of exile, especially as he was the first ever Yomiuri union player rep to be traded. All the injries have diminished his range at short, so he will probably play third with the Fighters. Hit .400 in pinch hit appearances in 2009. Biography: Played in three Koshien Tournaments (1987-1989). Slugged 28 homers in high school. Went 91-280 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs (.325) for his collegiate career. Was team captain and a shortstop at Waseda, where he was named to three Best Nine squads. Also connected for the first ever walkoff grand slam in the history of the fabled Keio University-Waseda rivalry. Drafted on the second round (1995). In game three of the 2000 Japan Series, cut a Daiei rally off at the knees with an almost unbelievable snag of a ground ball and a bullet throw to the plate to get the runner. The Giants caught fire from there and rallied feorm two games down to sweep the next four to take the title. Set a Central League record for plate appearances in a season with 652 (2001). Became the first Central League player ever to rack up 20 or more steals in a season and not be thrown out (2002). Was dogged by two oblique muscle pulls during the 2002 season and an ankle sprain and was injured after being hit in the arm by a pitch, leading to such a bad funk at the plate that there were rumors he was going to be moved to Lotte for some pitching.  Qualified for free agency and hoped to find an MLB job, but didn't receive any offers and returned to the Giants. Traded to Yokohama during the 2006 offseason and had a suprisingly decent year. Mashed a total of 24 first inning leadoff homers for his career. Biography: Akira Nishimoto's older brother. Was his team's pitcher and cleanup hitter in high school. Played in one Koshien Tournament. Drafted on the first round of the secondary phase of the draft (1966). Was hospitalized for two months after a car accident in April, 1968 and  rejoined the team in October. He was then rear ended during that offseason and suffered whiplash. Conberted into an infielder in 1970. Retired after the 1973 season due to liver disease and was hospitalized for three years. After recovering, he opened a restaurant in Matsuyama.
