Biography: Was his team's ace pitcher in high school. Drafted in the second round.  (1967). and signed for a four million yen signing bonus plus a 1.2 million yen salary. Part of his motivation for going pro was reportedly to pay back a 30,000 yen bar tab he had run up, which was his year's salary with Toshiba. Once even threw up in the middle of game with Kintetsu after drinking the night before. Got into 12 games a pitcher. Sat out the last game of the season to hold on to a tie with Isao Harimoto for the batting title (1969), the only time that two hitters have deadlocked for that crown in Japanese history. Traded to Nippon Ham (1976). Selected to three all star teams (1969-1970, 1972), batting .364 (8-22) with one homer and three RBIs in eight total games  Scouted after retirement. He now operates a yakitori restaurant in Yao.

Biography: Was his team's pitching ace in high school. Played in one Koshien Tournament (1961). Tokyo Big Six University League batting champ (Fall, 1964 .354). Drafted on the first round (1965). Replaced Daryle Spencer as Hankyu's cleanup hitter (1967). Spencer was moved up to the three hole. Spencer told him to not be afraid of hitting into double plays since Spencer would prevent that by taking out the second baseman with a hard slide. Was named MVP of all star game (game two, 1967, game one, 1970, game two 1971). Had previous hitting streak record of 32 games, during which he slammed 16 homers and drove in 40 runs while batting .424. That streak is a Pacific League record (5/28/1971-7/6/1971). Had at least one RBI in 11 straight games, a Pacific League record (6/9-6/25/1974). 200th homer (9/3/1972 against Nishitetsu in the fifth inning off of Akira Tanaka; he was the 19th man to do it). 300th homer (6/22/1975; he was the eighth man to do it and the fifth fastest by games played). Was first player to be named Best DH (1975). Had six lifetime walkoff homers. Selected to nine all star teams (1967-1975). After retirement, worked as a batting instructor for Seibu, Nankai, Yokohama and Lotte. Was also head coach at Lotte.

Biography: Ran track in junior high while also playing Senior League baseball. Drafted on the fourth round (2002). Was expected to be the next Kazuo Matsui and was even referred to as the best infield high school prospect in the world by a Mets scout. It also didn't help that he said he would refuse to play for anyone other than Yomiuri out of high school and he ended up being stuck in the minors because of the presence of longtime veterans Tomohiro Nioka and Toshihisa Nishi. Then the Giants brought in Daiei third sacker Hiroki Kokubo to play third as well, not to mention that Yomiuri's player development has been suspect. Traded to Orix during the 2006 offseason, but he found himself toiling in the minors again after the Buffaloes drafted shortstop Keiji Obiki and got Greg LaRocca to play third. Has been disappointingly unsteady defensively and his swing out of high school had a lot of moving parts, but he displayed good power, though that lonmgball capability has disappeared since he turned pro. Nonetheless, if he had allowed himself to be draftted by a lower echelon club out of school, his career arc potentialy could have been very different. As things tand right now, though, he is headed for an abbreviated career and obscurity.
