Biography: His two older brothers also played college baseball and one of those would go on to play in the industrial leagues while the other became a male model. Started playing baseball in first grade due to the influence of his dad. Played in Boys League in junior high. Was a reliever as well as an outfielder in high school, reportedly being clocked in the high 80's on the hill. He also pitched in four games in college in addition to his duties chasing fly balls. Drafted on the fourth round (1998). Has a powerful and deadly accurate arm and was employed very effectively in the late innings once Hiromitsu Ochiai took over with the Dragons. Biography: His family runs a yakiniku restaurant. Started playing baseball in second grade. Pitched in junior high. Became an infielder in  high school and was his team's cleanup hitter, slugging 39 homers for his career there. Played in one Koshien Tournament. Drafted on the third round (1999). Won Western League homer and RBI crowns (2003). Had surgery for a herniated disk late in the 2006 season. He also had elbow surgery during the 2008 offseason. Reportedly only has 9% body fat. Handles breaking pitches quite well and goes the other way a lot while focusing on staying inside the baseball.  100th homer (4/7/2009 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium in the fifth inning off of Yasutomo Kubo, a two run jack to left).
