Birthplace: Slugged 43 homers and hit .490 in high school. He was even intentionally walked in a prefectural tournament game against Tenri High School with the bases loaded. Drafted on the second round as a pitcher  (1980). First player to drill a grand slam in his first pro at bat (4/10/1983). Was named Japan Series MVP after batting .522 (1989). Hammered 6000th homer in Yomiuri history (8/17/1992 against Yakult at Meiji Jingu Stadium off of Takano). His 29 GIDP in 1994 is a Central League record.Had a career high 25 game hitting streak (5/18-6/17/1999). Got himself in trouble when, relegated to pinch hitting duty due to a slump, he exited the ballpark in the midst of a game, resulting in a suspension and demotion to the minors. He wanted to keep on playing, but that incident soured interest in him and he was forced into retirement. Is second all time in grand slams with 13. Selected to six all star teams (1990-1992, 1995, 1997-1998). Is currently a baseball commentator.
