Biography: Started playing baseball in third grade. Played in three Koshien Tournaments (summer 1992, spring, summer 1993). Drafted on the third round (1993). Tied an NPB record with five strikeouts in a game (6/14/1997). His five straight seasons leading the Pacific League second sackers in fielding percentage tied a circuit record. Named to Japan's olympic baseball squad at Athens (2004). Was named team captain in 2007 and backed that nomination up by batting .500 with 19 RBIs in bases loaded situations that season. His 2009 numbers were the biggest surprise in Japanese baseball that year and provokes suspicions as to whether he might have had some chemical help for a guy long known to be good field and no hit, but Japan's testing regime is stricter than MLB's and there has been no evidence presented that Kaneko did them. But he cut yhis homer ratio of one for every 81 at bats to 1:32.4 and he had a career high in doubles, total bases, BA, OBP, SLG and OPS, all at age 33. Either NPB is covering up steroid use by its Japanese players or Kaneko was just a miracle story. Make up your own mind. His seven straight games with a double is a pro yakyu record (4/7-4/15/2009). Moreover, he was only one of two men in history to do that for six games. 1000th game (4/16/2004 against Lotte at Tokyo Dome). Is married to former Asahi TV announcer Seika Shiragi. Selected to three all star teams (2002, 2004, 2009). Married to Asahi TV sportscaster Sayaka Shiraki. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Third generation Korean-Japanese. Korean name is Kim Ji-won and he is the youngest of five children. His Japanese birth name was reportedly Hironari, but he changed it sometime during yhis youth. Played in Little League in fourth grade and couldn't hack the practices, so he moved to softball.. Pitched in junior high on their nanshiki ball team. Played third and pitched while batting cleanup in high school while also slugging 20 homers. Failed to pass the entrance exam into Chuo University and then also flunked a tryout with Yakult (who probably feel real stupid now). Was recommded to attend Tohoku Fukushi University by a friend and he passed that exam. Blasted 23 homers for his college career and was picked to a Japanese collegiate all star squad that faced off with one from the U.S.. Drafted on the fourth round (1991). Homered in the last game of the 2000 season to become the seventh .300-30 homer-30 steals man in Japanese history. Had a streak of 1002 straight plate appearances without grounding into a double play (5/12/2000-9/28/2001). Moved to Hanshin via free agency. Slugged four homers in the Japan Series, all of them coming in a three game stretch (2003), Selected to nine all star teams (1995-1997, 2000-2001, 2003-2006, 2009). Has homered in 32 different ballparks during his career.. 100th homer (9/9/1997 against Hanshin at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium off of Keiichi Yabu). 200th homer (7/7/2001 against Hanshin at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium off of Shinji Taninaka in the third inning, the 83rd man in history to that mark). 300th homer (4/9/2995 against Yokohama at Koshien Stadium in the fourth inning to right off of Takashi Saito, a two run jack, becoming the 30th man in NPB history to do that). 400th homer (5/13/2008 against Hiroshima at Toyama in the ninth inning off of Ryuji Yokoyama on a firat pitch 86mph fastball, a two run jack to rightcenter, the 15th man to that mark but at 40 years and a month, the oldest. He was also the fifth college grad to accmplish it and the first player to pull it off while a Hanshin Tiger). 1000th consecutive game played (8/11/2005 against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome, seventh man to that mark all time).1000th run scored (8/25/2005 against Hiroshima at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium, 32nd to that mark all time). 1000th RBI (9/9/2005 against Hiroshima at Koshien Stadium, a solo homer to center off of Hiroki Kuroda in the sixth). Is only the second man in Japanese annals to play in 1000 straight, and score and drive in a thousand runs during his career, the other being Sachio Kinugasa. Is only the fourth player to have homered off of all 12 pro teams (Homered off of Yusaku Iriki of Nippon Ham on 6/10/2005 at Koshien Stadium). Is just the 12th man ever to reach 1000 walks for his career (8/29/2006 against Chunichi at Koshien Stadium off of Yuiichi Hisamoto in the sixth inning).  Five walk game (10/11/2001). Drove in five runs in an inning (5/31/2003). 1000th hit (9/2/2001 against Yomiuri at Hiroshima Municipal Stadium in the eighth inning off of Hideki Okajima, a single to center). 2000th Hit (4/12/2008 against Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium in the seventh off of Hayato Terahara, an RBI single to right. At 40 years and zero months, he was the third oldest man ever to reach that standard). However, he went 18 straight hitless plate appearances after getting number 1999, an all time NPB worst for someone who attained 2000 knocks. 4000th total base (8/6/2009 against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome in the first inning off of Susumu Kawai, an RBI double to right, the 13th man to that mark). Has homered in 32 different ballparks. Became the oldest man to have a three homer game at 41 years and five days (4/8/2009 against Hiroshima at Koshien Stadium). Is just one of two men ever to have a thousand hits with each of two different teams. Belted 7000th homer in Hanshin history (5/12/2009 against Hiroshima at Koshien Stadium in the ninth inning off of Ryuji Yokoyama,a, a solo jack to left in a 1-0 victory). Had kneee surgeries during the 2007 and 2008 offseasons. Became the oldest man ever to slug an Opening Day homer at age 41 (4/3/2009 against Yakult at Osaka Dome in the third inning off of Masanori Ishikawa, a solo jack to right). Also slammed three homers in consecutive plate appearances in two games in a month, the first man ever to do that (April, 2009). His 1492 straight games playing in every inning is a pro baseball world record (7/21/1999 against Hanshin to 4/18/2010 against Yokohama at Yokohama Stadium; reached 701 to eclipse the old record on 8/1/2005 against Yomiuri at Koshien Stadium and also beat Cal Ripken's MLB mark of 903, eclipsing that in 2006). It ended due to a bad shoulder and a slump at the plate that saw his batting average drop to .167. However, his consecutive games played streak is still ongoing. Hobbies are watching pro wrestling and weight training, which helps him keep his body fat percentage to between eight and nine. However, he is a relatively heavy drinker and has unsuccessfully tried to quit smoking. Is married. Reference: Wikipedia Japan . Official Homepage
