Biography: Started playing baseball in the second grade. Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 1980). Drafted on the first round (1981). Connected for the 25,000th homer in Pacific League history (7/12/1986 against Kintetsu).  Drilled the first come from behind grand slam sayonara homer on Opening Day in Japanese history (1994 against Kintetsu off of Motoyuki Akahori).  First catcher ever to be paid 100 million yen a season. Considered to be the best handler of pitchers in the game while he was a player. Owns the Pacific League record for career sac bunts. Had two seasons with a 1.000 fielding percentage, a Pacific League record. Owns the league record for most errorless chances by a catcher in a season with 943 (1997). Also holds the mark for most errorless consecutive chances with 1263 (1996-1998). 2000th game (4/23/2000 against Nippon Ham). Made manager upon his hanging up his spikes.
