Biography: Played in Senior League in junior high. Knew hall of fame catcher Katsuya omura growing up and Nomura recommend that Ibata go from being a pitcher to an infielder. He also suggested that Ibata go to Horikosh High School. Played in two Koshien Tournaments (spring 1992, summer 1993). Selected to three Best Nine teams in college. Drafted on the fifth round (1997). Had elbow surgery during the 2003 offseason. Compensates for not having a big gun with a quick release. Had a string of 513 errorless chances at shortstop in 2006, a Central League record. His 480 assists at shortstop in 2005 is a Central League record. Does all the classic things a number two hitter does and he is tough to strikeout. Is nearsighted and has had two Lasic procedures. Qualified for free agency in 2008, but chose to stay with the Dragons with a team first ever five ywar contract. He has also played in several international tournaments for Japan. Had five straight hits in a 2009 all star game, only the third man in NPB history to do that. 1000th hit (4/1/2007 against Yakult at Nagoya Dome in the first inning off of Shugo Fujii, a double). 1000th game (7/16/2007 against Yakult at Nagoya Dome in a start at shortstop). Selected to six all star teams (2001-2002, 2005, 2007-2009). Married to former Asahi TV newscaster Akiko Kawano. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Started out playing nanshiki ball in elementary school. Played Little League and then Senior League ball. Won a Triple Crown and an MVP in college. His 24 career homers there is a Tokyo Metropolitan University record. Was selected to the Atlanta Olympics (1996). Drafted on the first round (1996). Injured  ankle ligaments during spring training of his rookie year and he began the regular schedule on the shelf. Inside the park homer (7/5/1998 against Lotte off of Atsushi Yoshida). Was a free swinging dead pull hitter his first few years before focusing on hitting the the other way beginning with the 2003 season, resulting in a big improvement in his overall numbers while drastically reducing his strikeouts. Is just one of three men in Japanese history to have a season with 30 homers and 40 steals (2001). Had four doubles in a game to tie a Japan record (7/26/2003). Selected to four all star teams (2001-2004). Has had two shoulder surgeries. Is one of only four players to have two walk off grand slams during his Japanese career (9/99 and 4/16/2009 against Rakuten at Chiba Marine Stadium in the 10th inning off of Shinichiro Koyama). His five straight games of three hits or more is a Pacific League record and tied a pro yakyu mark held by only one other man (6/3-6/8/2003). Was released by Daiei so that he could play in MLB, whereupon he was signed by the Chicago White Sox and was a vital cog in a world champion ballclub. His seven RBIs in an MLB game is a record for a Japanese player (6/25/2006 against Houston, doing it on a three run homer and a grand slam). After also playing for San Diego and Philadelphia, he signed with Lotte in January, 2009 in a three year deal paying him $2 million a year plus incentives.  Has now homered out of every slot in the batting order and he accomplished it on his 150th career bomb. 1000th game (8/26/2009 against Softbank at Chiba Marine Stadium in a start at second base). 100th homer (4/6/2003 against Nippon Ham at Tokyo Dome in the eighth inning off of Hiroyuki Sekine, a two run jack). 1000th hit (4/4/2010 against Orix at Osaka Dome in the sixth inning off of Hiroshi Kisanuki, an infield knock toward short).  fOfficial Homepage   Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
