Biography: Drafted on the sixth round (1988). Beat out Hiromi Matsunaka for the batting title by four one-thousandths of a point. Had a knee operated on twice  in 2001. He was brought up from the minors for one last game in 2002 and doubled to rightcenter off of fastball down in the zone in his one time at the plate in a pinch hit role during the bottom of the seventh to drive in Koichi Hori from second base. Was named MVP in college (1977F). Signed outside the draft (1977). Converted into an outfielder in May, 1979. Second all time in career sac bunts.
