Biography: Started out playing nanshiki ball in elementary school. Pitched and played outfield in high school and was reportedly clocked at 87mph. Slugged 33 homers as a schoolboy. Drafted in the first round (2004). In his first pro game in the minor leagues, he was hit near the eye by Daisuke Yamai and suffered a fracture and even lost some vision for a while.When he came back, he wore a facemask until he was completely healed (2005). Suffered a heel injury a week after his first call up to the Hawks and would spend the rest of that season in the minors. Has also played shortstop in the minors. Biography: Pitched at Waseda and ran up a 46.2 scoreless innings streak to set a Tokyo Big Six University League record. Was converted into a position player after his second year in pro ball. Biography: Slugged 61 homers in high school. Drafted on the fifth round as a catcher (1988). Was also positioned at rightfield during his first year of pro ball and then started playing third in 1991. Missed a good chunk of the first half of 1994 with an injury. Biography: Father was an outfielder in the industrial leagues with Yawata Seitetsu. Shinichi-kun was a catcher in junior high and batted cleanup in high school. He never made it to the Koshien Tournament, though. Signed by Chunichi after a tryout and converted into a first baseman and, later, a leftfielder. Traded in June, 1970 to Lotte. First player to win batting championships in both leagues. Traded to Taiyo during the 1971 offseason and then traded to Taiheiyo in 1975. Selected to 11 all star teams (1959, 1961-1969, 1971).Had two career pinch hit grand slams (5/22/1971 against Nishitetsu and 7/30/1971 against Hankyu). Connected for ten career pinch hit homers. Had an 809 consecutive games played streak (4/11/1959-4/16/1965). 300th homer (8/5/1971). 2000th hit (9/6/1975 against Kintetsu, the ninth man to that mark). 1000th RBI (7/16/1972). (Opened a baseball academy in Shizuoka Prefecture and became its principal before managing in the industrial leagues. Died of liver cancer.
