He subsequently played in an Australian League in Queensland, where he started getting feelers from Boston. However, U.S. immigration wouldn't give him a work visa for some reason after the Red Sox had signed teammate Akimasa Matsuo and Doue returned to Japan, where he spurred Kgawa to another league crown. He was subsequently taken in the taxi squad draft by Softbank in 2008 and was quickly added to the regular roster when the 2009 campaign began, being selected to a Western League all star team.
