Biography: Father played catcher in high school on the same team as Masayuki Kakefu. His first name was inspired by his mom's favorite singer, Shinnosuke Ikehata. Was first exposed to baseball at two years of age. Played nanshiki ball in elementary school. Began hitting lefthanded because he was a fan of Kakefu. Played third base in Senior League. Became a catcher in the fall of his sophomore year of high school. Slugged 38 homers in high school, but only four in college. Played on the Japanese olympic baseball team at Sydney. Drafted on the first round (2000). Became the first rookie catcher for Yomiuri to start on Opening Day in 23 years and drove in four runs in that game. Slugged 16 homers in a month to tie a pro yakyu record (April, 2004). Became first Giants catcher ever to 30 homers (2004). cranked a homer in six straight games (4/9-4/16/2004). Biography: Started playing baseball at age five on a nanshiki team. Entered Little League in second grade. Was a Taiyo Whales and Yakult fan growing up, idolizing Kaname Yashiki and Takahiro Ikeyama. Was a pitcher in junior high. Went from the outfield to catching as a high school senior. Was a teammate of Hirotoshi Ishii in high school and batted .390 for his career there. Aikawa also it his first career pro homer off of Ishii. Drafted on the fifth round (1994). Played on the Japanese olympic baseball team at Athens. Played a little outfield in the minors and even started in a minor league all star game in left.Hand swelled up from catching closer Mark Kroon's 100mph heaters. Is Yokohama's players union rep. Played on Japana's inaugural WBC squad (2006).Had arthroscopic schoulder surgery during the 2007 offseason. Selected to two all star team (2007, 2009).  Became a free agent after the 2008 season and attempted to find a job in MLB, but there was no interest and so he took an offer from Yakult. His brother Juri is a fashion model. Hobbies are weight training, going to concerts and fishing. Moved to Yakult via free agency during the 2008 offseason. Biography: Started playing baseball in third grade with a local youth team. Slugged 35 homers in high school. Drafted on the third round (2006). Beaned in his first career plate appearance in the minors. He was batting with two outs in the ninth of a perfect game bid by Orix hurler Kazuki Kondo. Kondo not only had two strikes on Aizawa and then loset the perfecto, he was ejected under NPB's dangerous pitch rule (5/29/2007 at Kita Kobe Stadium). Biography: Akada says that his father gave him the characters of his first name in hopes he would carry himself like a Shogun. Grew up not far from Kosuke Fukudome's house. Started playing baseball in junior high. Initially wasn't a regular in high school until a pro scout saw Akada working out at short and told the coach that he liked his fielding ability. Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 1998). Slugged 49 homers in high school. Drafted as a second baseman in the second round (1998). Had a shoulder problem and was thus moved to the outfield his second season. Became a switch hitter in 2002. Suffered a leg injury during spring training, 2007 and missed most of the season. Biography: Played soccer in elementary school. Was a Chunichi fan growing up, idolizing its manager, Senichi Hoshino. Began playing baseball in sixth grade with a youth team coached by his father. Almost stopped playing baseball in juniro high because of his small sixe. Played in two Koshien Tournaments as an infielder (spring, 1993-1994). Belsted 16 homers as a schoolboy. Initially played third in college before being switched to the outfield as a junior due to not being defensively sound enough at his original position. Selected to three Tokyo Metropolitan University League Best Nine squads, stealing 48 bases during his collegiate career, second most all time to Kenjiro Nomura in that circuit. Saved a woman who had fallen on to the train tracks his senior year. Played for Japan at the Sydney olympic games. Has a teaching credential in social studies and is also qualified to become a train conductor. Worked out for Lotte, but they didn't like the fact he had little power and so they passed on him. Drafted in the fourth round (2000). Replaced Tsuyoshi Shinjo in centerfield for the Tigers. Became the first Hanshin stolen base champ in 45 years (2001). Suffered a tibia fracture when he fouled a ball off of his leg during the 2002 season and missed the rest of the first half. Stole seven bases against an MLB all star squad, causing David Ortiz to remark that he was going to pack Akahosh into a suitcase and take him back to Boston. (2004).. Akahoshi had played part of the 2004 season with a broken fingerSuffered three borken ribs furing an interleague game during the 2005 season and missed only one game and set a new pro yakyu record for plate appearances with 689. Was the first man in Central League history to win five straight steals titles and was the first man since Yutaka Fukumoto to steal 60 in three consecutive campaigns. Also broke an Ichiro record with 165 singles in a season. It remains second most all time (2005). Suffered a herniated spinal disk attempting a diving catch in a game in May, 2007 and went on the shelf for a while and then was platooned as a way of giving him some rest.  200th steal (4/21/2005 against Yomiuri). 300th steal (7/25/2007 against Chunichi at Nagoya Dome). Is the all time Tigers steals leader. Is only one of nine men in history to have accumulated enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title and not homer when he did it in 2004 and just the third to have done it in three seasons during his career.
