Biography: Sarted playing baseball in first grade due to the influence of his older brother. Played basketball in junior high because he didn't want to have to get his hair butched as was the custom on his school's baseball squad. Later, he would join the school's nanshiki ball team, though, becoming its ace. Clocked at 90mph in high school. Drafted on the first round (2003). Notched a Fireman of the Year title in the Eastern League in 2004. Had shoulder surgery in November, 2007 and missed the first half of the 2008 campaign as a result. Picked up two big wins and a hold in the waning days of the schedule to help his team into the playoffs and then played a big role in his club ultimately winning the NPB championship. Hurt his elbow in July, 2011 and  had to have season ending surgery on it. 95mph fastball with a slider, cutter and forkball.   Official Homepage   Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Wanted to be a pro baseball player since he was in elementary schooll, when he played on a local youth team helmed by his dad.  Ran track in junior high because his school didn't have a baseball team while playing with another youth baseball squad. Was an outfielder and reliever in high school because Yoshinori Tateyama (later of Nippon Ham) was its ace. Took a year off to study for Osaka Taiiku Univwrsity's entrance exam. Lead his college to five Hanshin University League titles, finishing with a 36-4 record during his career there and was named best pitcher four times. Also struckout 21 in a game against Osaka Keizai Hoka University his junior year, a league record. His 36 career victories and 13 shutous are also league marks. Ended Cuba's 151 game winning streak in the Intercontinental Cup, with future Yomiuri teammate Yoshinobu Takahashi blasting a big homer (1997). Turned down an offer from the Angels to play for Yomiuri. Won 15 straight games his rookie year, the fourth longest streak in NPB history and eclipsing the previous NPB rookie  best of 13 set by Giants hurlder Tsuneo Horiuchi in 1966 (5/30-9/21/1991) and was the first man in 37 years fresh out of the amateur ranks to win 12 games in the first half of a campaign. Was also the first 20 game winner in NPB in nine years and the first rookie fresh out of the amateur ranks since 1980 to do it. Hampered by a July hamstring injury in 2000 and then another such injury in 2001 to go along with a knee problem. Pitched on a Japanese all star team that faced off against one from MLB, at one point striking out Barry Bonds on three pitches (2002). Rang up seven straight complete game victories (7/20-8/29/2003). Was part of Japan's olympic baseball squad at Athens (2004). Afflicted by the injury bug again both during and after the olympics that year. Unfortunately, he then had more hamstring problems during the 2006 regular season. Started on Opening Day seven times, all consecutively. However, he didn't have much success in those games. Absolutely owned Yakult. Named to Japan's WBC club, going 3-2 and tossing seven shutout innings in the semifinals against Korea to help his country to the title. Injured himself in spring training, 2007 and began the regular schedule late. His 11 saves for the month of Agust that year tied a pro yakyu mark.  He also became only the second man in history that season to have a year of 20 wins and another of 30 or more saves. His final year, he lost some zip off of his fastball and his command deteriorated as well and thus he had a relatively disappointing final NPB campaign, even being sent down to the minors for a time to try to rectify things. Even so, he was selected to Japan's olympic team at Peking. Upon his return from the games, he went 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA. Following the conclusion of the schedule, he was signed by Baltimore. 100th win (8/25/2006 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium in a start, his 191st appearance, tying for the fastest to that mark since the institution of the draft in 1965). Selected to six all star teams (1999, 2001-2005). Once had whale meat served to him as part of a meal at elementary school. Favorite class in school was math. Says his favorite animals are birds because he himself kind of resembles a bird.If he was a plant,  he would be a carrot. Loves eating at McDonald's and Yoshinoya and his favorite beer is Asahi Dry.  Hobby is golf. Favorite movie is the one about Jim Morris (called "Old Rookie" in Japan). Favorite tv programs are comedies. Ideal woman is one who can speak english and cook well. Has lately been playing a lot of mah jong somputer games. Says he would choose baseball over love anytime  Also said that the most traumatic thing that happened to him in his life to date was flunking his college entrance exam and he had spend a year studying to take it again. Was involved iun a bad auto accident in 2000 where he hit a motorcyclist while making an illegal u-turn. Uehara wasn't injured. He also rear ended a street sweeper in 2006 . Signed with Baltimore via free agency after the 2008 season.. Official Homepage Married to former model Miho Yamasaki. Fastball around 90mph with a cutter, forkball and a slider. Biography: Became his high school team's ace his senior year. Was clocked in the high 80's there. Drafted on the fifth round (2004). Made the team out of spring training his rookie year but was sent down a month later and then got hammered in the Eastern League. The Sallows, though, eventualy tired of his lack of command and he saw some action in the minors as an outfielder and catcher in 2008. However, he wanted to continue as a pitcher and was released that offseason, Seibu picking him up, for whom he had a solid Eastern League campaign in 2009. Biography: Born on Kadena airbase to an American father who was in the military at the time and a Japanese mother. Apparently, although I haven't been able to confirm it, the "Unten" is his mom's maiden name while "Clayton" is his father Michael's surname. He reportedly speaks both english and Japanese fluently. With the enoucragement of his fatehr, began playing baseball in second grade with a local youth team. Played with another youth team in junior high. Became his high school team's ace his junior year. Clocked at a high of 91mph as a schoolboy. Drafted on the fourth round (2009). Got taken deep by the first hitter he faced in his big league debut, Mike Hessman, but got through the rest of the inning on one other hit, a double. Fastball, slider and curve. There was major league interest in him, with a Mets scout noting that he needs a more compact delivery but otherwise reminds him of Yu Darvish. Is very athletic, running rhe 50 meters in 6.1 seconds. Biography: Grandson of Iso Utsumi. Was his high school team's ace. Played in one Koshien Tournament. When he learned that Orix was going to draft him as its top choice, he decided to go to the industrial lagues. Drafted on the first round (2003). They gave him the same number his grandad wore. Won an Eastern League ERA title (2004). Made the team out of spring training in 2005, but had no wins after June. Played on an NPB all star team that faced off against one from MLB in 2006. Started on Opening Day 2007 and 2010, winning both. Selected to Japan's WBC contingent in 2009 and then had a bad first half of the regular season, even getting sent down for a short time. He rediscovered himself and finished strong the last month of the season to help his side get into the Japan Series. In June, 2010, finally beat Chunichi for the first time in three years. Became the first Giants lefty to win 15 games or more in a season since Hisao Niura in 1979. He also became the first Giants southpaw to lead the league in wins since Kazumi Takahashi in 1969. Selected to three all star teams (2006-2007, 2010). Fastball around 90mph, slurve, slider, sinker, circle change and works quickly. Tends to give up most of his runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Married and has two sons. Reference: Wikipedia Japan
