Biography: Became a pitcher his junior year of high school and was clocked as high as 88mph. Went 19-4 in college and set a new Kansai Scholastic League record by fanning nine men in a row in a game against Kyoto University, finishing with 23 strikeouts in that tilt, jetting past Masanobu Okubo's previous league record of 18 (4/8/2007). He then went out in his next start and tossed a no hitter against Doshisha University. Drafted on the first round (2008). Lead the Western League in IP and strikeouts. Unfortunately, his ERA was also 4.87 (2009). Clocked at 92mph with a curve, slider and forkball. Is said to stylistically resemble Seibu righty Fumiya Nishiguchi. Still an active player. Biography: Is the third of four children. His older sister was on her high school's karate team. Started out playing nanshiki ball in third grade with a local youth team. Played nanshiki ball in junior high as well on a two time prefectural champion. Was his team's ace in high school, Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 2001). During their second game in that tourney, an Atlanta scout clocked him at 98mph while the speed gun in the ballpark put that pitch at 95mph. The pitch itself was well outside. He was subsequently selected to a Japanese IBAF tournament team, appearing twice in relief. It also made him the first high schooler ever picked for a Japanese combined amateur/pro national team. Leading up to the draft, the Dodgers sent Tommy Lasorda to Japan to try to sign Terahara, reportedly telling the youngster that "you can help us win a World Series one day." When the manager of one of the four NPB teams who wanted to make him their first round pick got wind of it, Yomiuiri's Shigeo Nagashima, Nagashima and Lasorda got into a shouting match, with Lasorda leaving bewildered as to why Nagashima was jumping down his throat over this when Lasorda wasn't breaking any rules. Terahara rebuffed the Dodgers and Daiei won the lottery drawing and took him as their top selection. He became the first rookie fresh out of high school to make his first appearance a start for the Hawks since Yuji Inoue in 1981. Was initially extremely popular after joining the Hawks, receiving 302 boxes of chocolate on Valentine's Day that year. His six wins were an all time team best for a rookie fresh out of high school. Won six decisions in a row in 2003 at one point in the first half. But then he had injury problems and ended with lackluster numbers. He was dogged by more injury issues over the ensuing two seasons. Traded to Yokohama in December 2006. Started on Opening Day of the 2008 campaign, losing to Hanshin 4-2 at Osaka Dome. Traded to Orix during the 2010 offseason. Selected to one all star team (2008). His 2009 was marred by more injuries. Fastball clocked as high as 98mph with a curve, cutter, shuuto slider and changeup. He has battled command issues and they tinkered with his mechanics a lot with Daiei, causing him to kind of lose himself. They basically totally had him stop throwing his curveball even though MLB scouts rated it a plus pitch, in favor of the slider. Has yet to fulfill his potential and has trouble getting deep into ballgames. Is married to his high school sweetheart and has a son.  Official Blog   Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
