Biography: Son of a junior high school teacher. Began playing baseball in first grade due to the influence of his older brother. Was his high school team's ace at the same time Yu Darvish was there and garnered interest from MLB for his 93mph fastball. Drafted on the first round (2002). Ejected from a game after throwing just one pitch when he beaned Lotte first b aseman Kazuya Fukuura (6/17/2006 in the seventh inning). Unleashed three wild pitches in an inning (10/12/2006).  His velocity dropped off precipitously in 2008 to the mid-80's and his control still never settled down and he even had a nunber of throwing errors as well. So after the 2009 campaign ended, he went to the Japanese fall Phoenix League as part of a plan to convert him into an outfielder. His high school coach said he had better ability at the plate than when that same coach had Shigenobu Shima. Fastball, slider, curve and forkball. Married to former model Naoko Shinoda. Is reportedly a really nice guy.  Official Blog   Reference:   Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Started playing baseball in third grade, moving on to a youth league. Played in one Koshien Tournament, finishing second (spring 1986). Became his college team's ace his junior year, finishing his career with a 16-8 record and picking up and ERA crown along the way. Drafted on the first round (1991). Started on Opening Day, 1996-1998, including the first regular season game ever held at Osaka Dome (1997). On July 2, 1999 against Lotte, he threw a wild pitch with two on and the runners going on a double steal attempt, Takamura so upset at a runner scoring from second on that play that he failed to cover the plate and instead threw his glove to the ground, Marines infielder Koichi Hori then exploiting that to score all the way from first. Also once lost a game 1-0 when Nippon Ham outfielder Tatsuya Ide took him deep on the first pitch of the contest, reportedly the first time ever a hurler was hung with a defeat due to a first pitch dinger (5/2/2001). Went to Rakuten in the dispersal draft following the dissolution of Kintetsu. Rakuten released him at the end of the 2005 season and he worked out with Hideo Nomo's club team before getting a coaching position with Rakuten in 2006. 1000th inning (6/6/1999 against Daiei at Osaka Dome). 1000th strikeout (4/10/2003 against Lotte at Chiba Marne Stadium in the first inning off of Saburo Omura. Biography: Reportedly didn't like baseball at all as an elementary school youngster, choosing instead to play ice hockey with a local club team as a defense man from second throgh sixth grade, winning a kanto region championship in sixth grade. When he entered junior high, his father, who was a baseball fan, persuaded Shohei to take up nanshiki ball. He also played on a K-ball national champion all star squad as its ace (K-ball's hardness is reportedly between the nanshiki ball and the regular baseball). Played in three Koshien Tournaments. Drafted on the fourth round (2008). Fastball clocked as high as 93mph with a slider but still needs a real outpitch and better control. Still an active player. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
