Biography: Reportedly had never even seen a baseball game until he started playing it in junior high. Planned to get a job after junior high, but he failed the company exam and went to high school instead. Did judo and nanshiki ball in high school. Drafted on the second round (1978). Traded to Nippon Ham udring the 1983 offseason. Went to a three quarter delivery, which improved his control markedly, though his velocity declined to the mid-80's. Came down with a circulatory problem in his elbow and had surgery to fix it in 1987. He was the oldest pitcher to throw a no hitter at the time he did it, 32 years and eight months. Ichiro went hitless against him in ten career at bats and he is the only man to ever do that on either side of the Pacific. Had 11 walkless complete games lifetime. Selected to three all star teams (1985-1986, 1991).  Coached for Nippon Ham after retiring at the end of the 1994 season in the wake of suffering a cardiac arrest episode. Became a baseball commentator for J-Sports after retirement. 1000th strikeout (9/15/1992 against Lotte at Tokyo Dome, the 86th to that mark). Fastball, slider, shuuto, curve. Biography: Started playing baseball in third grade. Was an outfielder in junior high, where, he claims, he sucked so bad he was going to give baseball up, but at the invitation of a friend, he played nanshiki ball in high school, where he became a pitcher. Had a 44 consecutive inning streak without surrendering a run in college, helping his squad to a Japanese national title his senior year and taking home his league's MVP trophy. Selected to Japan's national collegiate all star team. Won a total of ten games at Kinki University. Drafted on the first round (1997). Had shoulder and elbow problems his first two seasons of pro ball. Went to a sidearm delivery in 2004 but later hurt his elbow and missed the entire 2005 schedule. He reverted to an overhand delivery in 2006. Was traded to Orix in June, 2007 and went back to throwing sidearm. Released at the end of the 2010 season. Fastball in fhe high 80's with a slider and shuuto. Reference: Wikipedia Japan
