| Biography: Started playing baseball in fifth grade. Threw a 16 strkeout no hitter in a prefectural tournament game in high school (1988S). Drafted on the fifth round by Lotte in 1988 and turned them down and went to the industrial leagues instead. Played in the Barcelona Olympic Games, hurting his elbow there (1992). Drafted on the third round (1992). Had injury problems the first two years of his career before showing a lot of promise in 1995, but then control problems and thhe fact that he couldn't get hitters to miss his fastball despite velocity that was reported in the low 90's (high at 95mph) consistently in addition to composure issues with runners on slowed his career down. Went to a sidearm delivery in 2002 wto try to conquer the lack of control with no success at the big league level, though he did win the Middle Reliever of the Year trophy in the Eastern League. Retired after the 2003 season and became am advance scout with Yomiuri. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

| Biography: Was a reliever in high school. Played in one Koshien Tournament, winning it all. Played in the Northern League with the Winnipeg Goldeyes after leaving Showa Concrete. Subsequently signed with the Ehime Mandarin Pirates of the Shikoku Island League in 2005, where he was clocked at a high of 94mph and threw five straight shutouts at one point and snatched the wins and strikeouts crowns while also being named to that circuit's Best Nine squad. Taken on the second round of the taxi squad draft (2005). That nmade him the first former SIL player to play in NPB. Added to the regular roster in May, 2006 and a couple days later became the first taxi squad alumnus to ever appear in an NPB match. Released after the 2009 season and became a minor league coach with Softbank. In addition to his heater, he also possessed a slider and a forkball, but never got his control straightened out and that was it for his career. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

| Biography: Is of Korean ancestry, his Korean name being Kim Il-yoong. Raised mostly in Shizuoka Prefecture. Became a pitcher in ninth grade. Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 1968).Because he wasn't full blooded Japanese, he was treated like a foreign player for draft purposes, which meant he could be signed outside of it by Yomiuri in 1968 after dropping out of high school, setting off a war of words between the Japan High School Baseball Federation and the Giants. He then hurt his shoulder and that and his youth confined him to largely just buildking up his stamina his firsat two years of pro ball. He also was beset by back problems. He was subsequently inserted nto the Giants rotation in 1973 as part of that ballclub's ninth straight Japan championship year. Began to have elbow problems after 1980 due to his workload. Left Yomiuri to play in the new KBO with Samsung from 1984-1986 as its ace (G91 IP 586.2 W 54 L 20 Save 3 ERA 2.53). However, he wasn't entirely accepted by his Korean teammates since he didn't speak Korean and he grew disenchanted with his experience there. He also learned to throw a chamgeup and screwball during his time there. Was discovered to have diabetes in 1986 as well and returned to Japan, joining Taiyo. Spun a shutout against Yomiuri to end an 18 game losing streak the Whales endured at the hands of the Tokyo nine (6/30/1989 at Toyama in a five hitter 5-0). Tossed a 13 hit shutou against Yomiuri, the most knocks ever suffered by a winning pitcher in a whitewash ever (8/4/1989 at Yokohama Stadium). Moved to Yakult in June, 1992. He id his diabetes from his teammates, giving himself his insulin injections in his hotel room bathroom and other places away from prying eyes. He was discovered with the syringes, though, eventually plus he had lost weight due to the disease, resulting in rumors that he was using drugs. Fastball, curve. screwball, changeup. Was 10-12 lifetime against Yomiuri. Selected to five all star teams (1976, 1978-1979, 1987-1988). Had five walkless complete games lifetime. Became a baseball commentator for NTV after retirement. | Biography: Went 22-13 in the industrial leagues before the company he worked for dissolved its baseball team in 1987. Drafted on the first round (1987). Started on Opening Day in 1991. Traded to Orix during the 1992 offseason. Became the third pitcher in history to strikeout 17 (8/12/1994 against Kintetsu at Kobe Green Stadium 3-2). Struckout a record 19 hitters in a ten inning loss (4/21/1995 against Lotte). Is the only pitcher ever to have three career games with 16 or more strikeouts (the other was 7/4/1993 against Kintetsu, fanning 16) and is only the second with 15 or more four times lifetime (he also whiffed 15 on 4/21/1993 against Kintetsu). His forkball would just seem to disappear as it entered the hitting zone, so it was dubbed "obake" (the ghost) by opponents. But he began to suffer elbow problems and had surgery on it after the 1998 campaign ended. Released at the end of the 2000 season and retired. 1500th inning (5/28/1997 against Seibu at Nagoya Dome, the 142nd man to that mark). Selected to one all star team (1993). Had four walkless complete games lifetime. Coached for Orix and worked as a baseball commentator for TV Osaka and others after retirement. Also runs a restaurant. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

| Biography: Akira Noguchi's younger brother and older brother of Noboru Noguchi (Hanshin) and Wataru (Nankai). Started playing baseball in elementary school. Played in one Koshien Tournament, winning it all by outpitching Kumamoto Kogyo High's ace, Tetsuharu Kawakami (summer, 1937).Dropped out of college in 1939 to turn pro. Threw all 28 innings of a 4-4 tie that was called due to darkness (5/24/1942 against Nagoya at Korakuen Stadium on 344 pitches). What was even more amazing about that was that he had tossed a shutout the day before against Asahi, where he had a no hitter broken up with one out in the ninth and had also twirled a shuout two days before that. Coached with Hankyu and managed in the minors for Kintetsu after retirement. His 57 walkless complete games lifetime is third all time. However, his 13 walkless and no HBP complete games in in 1948 is a Japan record. His 19 shutouts in 1942 tied a Japan record. Had a 54.1 inning streak without walking or hitting anyone (10/22-11/19/1950). Had three streaks of 43 or more consecutive scoreless innings (51 in 1940, 60.1 in 1941, 43 in 1943). Retired after the 1953 season. Died of pneumonia. |

| Biography: Started out playing softball in third grade. Started playing baseball in junior high. Was his high school team's ace. Drafted on the third round (1992). He was deemed to fat his first pro year and was consigned to the minors that entire season. His first career shutout was a no hitter. Went all the way in a 12 inning loss, making him the last man to throw more than 200 pitches in a game (8/30/1998 against Yakult at Nagoya Dome on 203 pitches; he was clocked at a high of 89mph in that game). He also went all the way in his next start, thought that was only nine innings. In 1999, he went into the ninth with a shutout in what would have been his 20th victory, but he gave up a run and lost 1-0. Tied an NPB record with four straight walkless complete games (2001). His 16 strikeouts in a game tied a then Central League record (5/24/2001 against Hanshin at Ishikawa Prefectural Stadium). Was injured most of 2002. Moved to Yomiuri as a free agent. After the 2007 season, his salary was reduced by 75% because of his lackluster performances. He then spent all of 2008 in the minors, getting into just six games and then was released at the end of the schedule. After flunking a tryout with Rakuten and the Cubs, he was going to be signed by Toronto, but flunked the physical. All four of his 2007 homers were by of righthanded hitters. 1000th inning (5/29/2000 against Hanshin at Nagoya Dome in the fifth inning against Naohisa Sugiyama). Selected to three all star teams (1998-1999, 2001). Married to wife Naomi. His hobby is watercolor painting. Official Blog Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

| Biography: Played Senior League ball in junior high and was named as part of Japan's national team. Played in one Koshien Tournament (spring 2001). Reportedly dropped out of college because he felt that university baseball was boring compared to high school ball. Was clocked at 93mph in the industrial leagues. Yomiuri acquired the son of Shidax manager Katsuya Nomura to try to lure Nomaguchi to their ballclub. Nomaguchi was apparently a Giants fan anyway and was drafted on the first round (2004). He was the Giants minor league Opening Day pitcher his rookie season. Did rather poorly at the big club level that year and was injured for a while as well. Began the 2007 season late due to injury, too. Picked up four wins in a 17 day period the last month of the season to help his team to their first pennant in five years in 2007. Has been clocked as high as 97mph with a slider, a forkball and inconsistent command. His younger brother and current Giants teammate Norihito Kaneto were best friends in elementary school. | Biography: Had injry problems for a lot of his career in the industrial leagues. Made the big club out of spring training his rookie year, but as the schedule wore on his performances declined and he was demoted to the minors for a while. He then lost three times in relief in the Tigers first ten games of the 2006 regular season and he was sent down again. He was nonetheless put into the starting rotation for 2007 but was relegated to the bullpen soon after and was subsequently dispatched to the Western League again. But he then righted himself during an August call up. Unfortunately, in 2008, he got hit around some more and spent most of the year in the minors. He was inserted back into the rotation in 2009 because of injuries to members of the pitching staff and had a breakout season, though he had trouble with run support, but still going 9-2 n an 11 start stretch anyway. Fastball tops out at 92mph with a slider, forkball, shuuto and changeup out of a three quarter delivery. Has had trouble getting lefthanded hitters out. Married to wife Chieko and has a daughter. | Biography: Started playing baseball in elementary school. Tossed a perfect game in high school the summer of his junior year. Played in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Drafted on the first round by Kintetsu, pocketing a then record 120 million yen signing bonus (1989). He was also the first to make more than 10 million yen his rookie season. He became only the second man in history to win both the Rookie of the Year and the MVP in the same season. Walked or hit 14 batters in only 4.2 innings of a game to tie a Japan record (7/10/1992 against Seibu at Seibu Stadium). Started twice on Opening Day (1993-1994). Had a no hitter going for eight innings on Opening Day, 1994, but with Kazuhiro Kiyohara singled off of him and he was pulled one out later, whereupon closer Motoyuki Akahori eventaully was tagged for a sayonara grand slam, denying Nomo a victory (Akahori absorbed the loss). Came down with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder in 1994, permanently taking about 3-4 mph off of his fastball. After wrangling over his salary and the way manager Keishi Suzuki was handling him, he retired and signed with Los Angeles. Nomo and Dwight Gooden are the only two major leaguers to strikeout at least 200 in each of their first three MLB campaigns. He also tossed no hitters against Colorado and Baltimore. Became the first Japanese to ever homer in a game (4/28/1998 against Milwaukee in his 245th MLB plate appearance). He also threw a complete game on that night and it was his 100th MLB appearance. 1000th MLB strikeout (9/8/1999 against Arizona form Jay Bell in his 147th game, third fastest to that mark in MLB history). For more info on what lead to Nomo leaving Japan, look at Robert Whiting's The Meaning of Ichiro. His four wins titles is a Pacific League record. Holds the Pacific League record for most games with ten or more strikeouts in a career with 70. Holds the Japan record for most ten strikeouts or more games in a season with 21 (1990). Set a Pacific league record for most walks in a season with 147 (1993). Walked five in an inning in one game to tie a Japan record (7/10/1992). Selected to five all star teams (1990-1994). Had two walkless complete games lifetime. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

| Biography: Drafted on the third round (1990). Became only the second man in NPB history to strike out four men in an inning (1993). Traded to Yomiuri during the 1997 offseason. He was subsequently picked up by Nippon Ham and then they released him at the end of the year and he gravitated to the Macoto Cobras of the CPBL, playing a season with them.
