Biography: Akira Noguchi's younger brother and older brother of Noboru Noguchi (Hanshin) and Wataru (Nankai). Started playing baseball in elementary school. Played in one Koshien Tournament, winning it all by outpitching Kumamoto Kogyo High's ace, Tetsuharu Kawakami (summer, 1937).Dropped out of college in 1939 to turn pro. Threw all 28 innings of a 4-4 tie that was called due to darkness (5/24/1942 against Nagoya at Korakuen Stadium on 344 pitches). What was even more amazing about that was that he had tossed a shutout the day before against Asahi, where he had a no hitter broken up with one out in the ninth and had also twirled a shuout two days before that. Coached with Hankyu and managed in the minors for Kintetsu after retirement. His 57 walkless complete games lifetime is third all time. However, his 13 walkless and no HBP complete games in in 1948 is a Japan record. His 19 shutouts in 1942 tied a Japan record. Had a 54.1 inning streak without walking or hitting anyone (10/22-11/19/1950). Had three streaks of 43 or more consecutive scoreless innings (51 in 1940, 60.1 in 1941, 43 in 1943). Retired after the 1953 season. Died of pneumonia.

Biography: Started playing baseball in elementary school. Tossed a perfect game in high school the summer of his junior year. Played in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Drafted on the first round by Kintetsu, pocketing a then record 120 million yen signing bonus (1989). He was also the first to make more than 10 million yen his rookie season. He became only the second man in history to win both the Rookie of the Year and the MVP in the same season. Walked or hit 14 batters in only 4.2 innings of a game to tie a Japan record (7/10/1992 against Seibu at Seibu Stadium). Started twice on Opening Day (1993-1994). Had a no hitter going for eight innings on Opening Day, 1994, but with Kazuhiro Kiyohara singled off of him and he was pulled one out later, whereupon closer Motoyuki Akahori eventaully was tagged for a sayonara grand slam, denying Nomo a victory (Akahori absorbed the loss). Came down with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder in 1994, permanently taking about 3-4 mph off of his fastball. After wrangling over his salary and the way manager Keishi Suzuki was handling him, he retired and signed with Los Angeles. Nomo and Dwight Gooden are the only two major leaguers to strikeout at least 200 in each of their first three MLB campaigns. He also tossed no hitters against Colorado and Baltimore. Became the first Japanese to ever homer in a game (4/28/1998 against Milwaukee in his 245th MLB plate appearance). He also threw a complete game on that night and it was his 100th MLB appearance. 1000th MLB strikeout (9/8/1999 against Arizona form Jay Bell in his 147th game, third fastest to that mark in MLB history). For more info on what lead to Nomo leaving Japan, look at Robert Whiting's The Meaning of Ichiro. His four wins titles is a Pacific League record. Holds the Pacific League record for most games with ten or more strikeouts in a career with 70. Holds the Japan record for most ten strikeouts or more games in a season with 21 (1990). Set a Pacific league record for most walks in a season with 147 (1993).  Walked five in an inning in one game to tie a Japan record (7/10/1992). Selected to five all star teams (1990-1994). Had two walkless complete games lifetime.
