Biography: The second son born into his family. Strated playing baseball with a youth teamin  third grade. Played the outfield in junior high before becoming a pitcher in high school. Was named his university league's MVP and finished with a 13-4 record. Drafted on the third round (1994). He was the first player out of his college to ever play pro ball. Was sent to a U.S.Northern League team, where he learned the changeup (1995). Was the Opening Day starter 1997-1999, 2006-2007 (scores were 4-3 against Daiei, 0-5 to Nippon Ham, . 1-0 against Daiei, 2-5 to Orix and 5-2 against Rakuten). Struckout eight in a row in a game (9/22/1996 against Kintetsu at Seibu Stadium in a one hitter, the only knock being by the first batter he faced in the game). Became the fourth man ever to strikeout four in an inning (4/12/1997 against Lotte at Chiba Marine Stadium). Lote a no hitter with two outs in the ninth when Makoto Kosaka dinged him for a single to center and he finished with a two hit shutout (8/36/2002 against Lotte at Seibu Dome 6-0). Had another no no foiled with two gone in the ninth when Takayuki Shimizu smashed a slider into the seats (5/13/2005 against Yomiuri at Seibu Dome), thus making him only the second man in history to have two no hitters broken up with only one more out to get. He subsequently threw a perfect game for nine innings against Rakuten, but it ended up scoreless in regulation. Eagles infielder Yoshinori Okihara then leadoff the tenth with a single to spoil it and Nishiguchi finished with a one hit 1-0 shutout (8/27/2005 againast Rakuten at Seibu Dome to become the first man to have a perfecto ruined in extra innings). Quit smoking in 2004 despite being such a heavy smoker that he used to sneak smokes between innings of his starts. Fastball that was clocked in the low 90's early in his career tailed off to the mid to high 80's with two types of slider, one having a shorter break on it he uses early in the count and then he has another one with much more radical downward break on it to finish hitters off. Also occasionally uses the shuuto, a curve and a forkball as well as the changeup, all of which he throws out of the same arm slot with similar looking arm speed. But he also hides the ball so habitually well that onetime Lions ace Hisanobu Watanabe once said that if you weren't used to him it is dangerousl even playing catch with him. Tends to lose his concentration with lesser hitters in games where he has a substantial leads and gives up the longball. Manager Tsutomu Itoh once said that Nishiguchi is best when he has to defend a two run advantage.Owns the Pacific League record for most consecutive seasons with at least one ten strikeout game with 11. Has not won a game at Tokyo Dome since 1996. But also had never lost a game at Osaka Dome until May 20, 2003 against Kintetsu. 100th win (10/9/2002 against Orix at Seibu Dome). 1000th strikeout (5/4/2002 against Lotte at Seibu Dome in the second inning against Kiyoshi Hatsushiba). 1500th strikeout (5/6/2006 against Softbank at Seibu Dome in the sixth inning against Julio Zuleta, the fourth fastest ever to that mark at 1729 innings). 1000th inning (4/28/2001 against Lotte at Seibu Dome). 1500 innings (8/13/2004 against Nippon Ham at Seibu Dome in a 4-0 victory; Nishighchi went 6.2 innings in that game). 2000th inning (9/18/2007 against Orix at Osaka Dome in a start). Because of Nishiguchi's record (seven straight years finishing in the top ten in ERA), , it has been a point of contention among fans and media just who Seibu's ace was, Daisuke Matsuzaka or Nishiguchi. There is a saying that Matsuzaka is Japan's ace, but the Lions'ace is Nishiguchi. Kiyoshi Toyoda once told the press that Matsuzaka is "The Monster" while Nishiguchi is the ace. However, he has lost five straight Japan Series games, a record. Selected to four all star teams (1996-1997, 1999, 2005). Is the winningeest pitcher for the team since Seibu bought the Lions. Is married with a daughter. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Younger brother of Akikazu Nishimoto. Was his high school team's ace and cleanup hitter. Played in one Koshien Tournament. Signed with Yomiuri after a tryout in 1974 and was looked at as a possible infield candidate. He was then largely consiged to batting practice pitching duty, but he impressed the team with his work ethic and he made his pro debut in April, 1976 in a story somewhat reminiscent of that of Kazuhisa Inao's. Lead the Eastern League in wins (1976). Tied a Japan record with three HBP in an inning (8/1/1979). His wife was critically burned in a gas explosion at their home during spring training 1981,causing him to sit out a chunk of the pre-season.  Nevertheless, he was named the Opening Day starter for that season and won the game, giving the game ball to his wife. Named MVP of the 1981 Japan Series after tossing two complete game victories, one a shutout, to best Nippon Ham four games to two. He also became the first man ever to whiff at least one man in each inning of one of those starts. When he was named the Sawamura Award winner over teammate Suguru Egawa, who had better stats, it was thought by some that it was payback by the voters for the suspect manner in which Egawa ended up a Giant. Spun two more CG in the 1983 fall classic, fashioning a 1.73 ERA in four games, but Seibu taking the title in seven games when he was tapped for a relief stint in game six on one days rest after spinning a CG in game five and gave up four straight singles in the ninth to allow the tying run to score, the Lions eventually prevailing in ten against Egawa. Nishimoto then started after a rainout had delayed game seven by one day and he had a 2-0 lead going into the seventh, but fatigue set in and Terry Whitefield connected for a low line drive bases clearing astroturf double to leftcenter and that would be the ballgame. Started on Opening Day in 1987 and wove a shutout (4/10/1987 against Chunichi at Korakuen Stadium). But he and pitching coach Mutsuo Minagawa didn't get along  and after two lackluster years, he was traded to Chunichi and tied for the CL lead in wins (five of those victories against Yomiuri). He had surgery for a herniated back disk in 1991 and was released after the 1992 campaign ended. Orix scooped him up, but it was obvious he was done and he was let go. The Giants re-signed him, but picthing coach Tsuneo Horiuchi strongly objected, ignominiously consigning Nishimoto to the minors, and he retired. Had 22 walkless complete games lifetime. His 165 lifetime victories is the most for any pitcher signed outside the draft since it started in 1965. Nobody else has even eclisped 150. His 29 straight scoreless innings in Japan Series action is an NPB record. Selected to eight all star teams (1980-1984, 1986, 1989-1990). It was said during his career that he and Egawa were at loggerheads with each other, but the truth is that they were good friends. Egawa was Nishimoto's personal rival, but it was mostly one way and Nishimoto used Egawa's much bigger public profile as a way to focus himself. He was actualy angry when Egawa retired. Anyway, in one famous incident, Nishimoto and Egawa were throwing bullpens during spring training next to each other and neither wanted to lose to the other, so catcher Kazuhiro Yamakura had to call an end to it after each man ran 330 pitches up there in a two hour or so period. His delivery was said to resemble Eiji Sawamura's and his outpitch was the shuuto. Also, threw the fastball curve and sinker. Coached for Hanshin and Lotte after retirement and has also worked as a baseball commentator for Bunka Broadcasting and Nikkan Sports.  Official Homepage   Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Traded to Kintetsu in March, 1995. Released at the end of the 1997 season and picked up by Daiei. Made an Opening Day start for Daiei to become only the tenth pitcher in history to do so in both leagues during his career (4/15/1998 against Nippon Ham).
