Released by Chunichi at the conclusion of the schedule and sgned with the Sinon Bulls of the CPBL in 2002, going 3-4 with a 4.25 EA in 24 games. Played in Italy with Bologna in 2003 and then in China with the Shanghai Golden Eagles in 2004. Went to the industrial leagues in 2005 as a player-coach for a trade school before takig a job as playing manager of a club team. But that outfit folded after the 2007 season and he went to the Shikoku-Kyushu Island League with the Nagasaki Saints as a playing coach and interim manager. Went 9-5 with a 1.90 ERA in 33 games that year, but he left that club at the end of the schedule and Osaka Independent League with the Akashi Red Soldiers in 2009 as solely a pitcher, but he was made a playing coach in 2010. | Biography: Started out playing nanshiki ball in first grade before switching to Little League as a fifth grader. Played in three Koshien Tournaments. Drafted on the first round (1996). Missed a scheduled negotiating session during the 1998 offseason because he forgot what the date was and was forced to give up his driver's license to the team for a year. Gave up 15 runs in eight innings in a 2003 Western League game against Hanshin's farm club, a league record. He was promoted to the big club later that season and won three games in a one week span. Traded to Hanshin in 2004. Won a Western League ERA title (2004). Traded to Orix during the 2005 offseason. The weird thing about his career was that he had pretty good success against Seibu, but just about nobody else. In Januray, 2007, he was the perpetrator of a hit and run accident where he struck a bicyclist in a crosswalk while driving without a valid license and Orix released him. The female cyclist, by the way, sustained minor injuries, but his high school senpai, Kosuke Fukudome, and former Hanshin teammate Akihiro Yano destroyed Maekawa in the press after the police released him from jail (Maekawa was given four years of probation, but if he violated it, he would go to jaiol for two years). He was even more verbally violently lit up by former Kintetsu hall of fame pitcher Keishi Suzuki, who said that he was sorry Maekawa had ever been a part of the Buffaloes. He then went to the Dominican Winter League and had a good enough series of performances to be invited to spring training by the Washington Nationals, but he then hurt his knee and he returned to Japan and worked out with Hideo Nomo's industrial league club. Signed to a minor league deal by St. Louis, but he got hit hard (ERA of 5.08) and was let go in early August, 2009. He participated in an NPB tryout to no avail that offseason and subsequently signed with the Kagawa Olive Guyners of the Shikoku-Kyushu Island League. Selected to two all star teams (2000-2001). | Biography: Started playing baseball in elementary school. Reportedly got taken deep in a game during that time by Miho Koga, who would go on to become a ladies pro golfer. Was his college team's ace, going 30-5 for his career there and being selected to Japan's natioinal collegiate all star team. Drafted on the first round (2003). Was initially a starter, but his inconsistent performances got him relegated to middle relief in 2005. However, he eventually became the closer and thrived in that role. Played with Japan's 2006 WBC team as a replacement for an injured hurler, but didn';t see any action during that tourney. He was also named to Japan's 2009 WBC contingent, where he was largely lackluster. He also pitched with a Japanese all star team that faced off against one from MLB, tossing three scoreless innings over the course of two appearances. His 38 saves in 2007 is a Hawks team record. Suffred from some shoulder inflammation just before the start of the 2008 campaign and was out of commission until July. Was the fastest Japanese ever to 100 saves at 178 games (10/6/2008 against Rakuten at Miyagi Prefectural Stadium). Holds the Hawks career record for saves. Clocked as high as 98mph wityh a curve ball, cutter, forkball, slider and changeup. Selected to three all star teams (2006-2007, 2010).. Hobbies are shopping and fishing. Is also said to be a little on the goofy side. Married to former TNC announcer Yuriko Hatano. Reference: Wikipedia Japan |

Suffered a broken leg in 1985 and missed two months of the schedule. Slugged the 5000th homer in Giants team history (6/28/1985 against Hanshin at Koshien Stadium off of Kazuhiko Kudoh). Injured a knee during the 1989 season and missed some time. Started on Opening Day (1991). Had surgery on his chest (1996). Owns the Central league record for career balks with 14. Was 38-10 with ten shutous lifetime against Hanshin. Shuzo Arita was more or less his personal catcher. Gave up back to back to back jacks in an inning twice in his career. He woned Hiromitsu Ochiai, but got owned by Atsuya Furuta. Had Lasik surgery during the 1995 offseason, but he experienced pain and wore contacts during the 1996 campaign before having another Lsik procedure during that offseason. One time, he incurred a big water blister while lighting off fireworks and still made his start the following day, going eight innings before the blister burst. In addition to his perfect game, also threw a one hit walkess shutout at Fukuoka Dome (1998). The only other man to spin a perfecto for Yomiuri, Hideo Fujimoto, also wore number 17. Is still the only pitcher to rack up 2,000 strikeouts solely in a Giants uniform. Selected to six all star teams (1988-1989, 1991-1992, 1994, 1999). Had nine walkless complete games lifetime. Became a baseball commentator for TBS and Sports Nippon after retirement. Is married. Official Blog Reference: Wikipedia Japan |
