Hurt his elbow during spring training, 2010, but would nonetheless return to action the first week fo the regular schedule. Tried to find a job in MLB during the 2010 offseason as a free agent, but there was no interest in signing him to anything other than a minor lerague deal and so he opted to go with Hanshin. Selected to four all star teams (2002, 2004-2005, 2007). His hobby is golf. Fastball is 89-91mph (clocked as high as 94mph) with a slider, cutter, forkball and changeup. Married to wife Kayo and has a son.  Official Blog    Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Started playing baseball in second grade. Was his college team's ace. Twice selected to Japan's national baseball team. Ended his collegiate career with 16 wins. Drafted on the first round (1998). Used him as a starter the second half of the 1999 season. Then he lost all three of his starts to begin the 2000 season and was sent to the bullpen. Became the first man in NPB history to win a game without officially facing a batter after Ichiro was throw out trying to go from first to third on a second pitch wild pitch (7/2/2000 against Orix). Set a then pro yakyu record with six saves in as many days (5/25-5/30/2001). However, he then got destroyed by PL lineups (11.42 ERA) form July onward. His 17 straight appearances with a save set a then PL record, as did his 33 straight games with a save point (2002). Selected to Japan's olympic baseball squad at Athens, where he didn't pitch too well. Became the fastest man ever to 150 saves at 312 games in 2005. Closed out Lotte's pennant clinching game in 2005 as well as its Japan Series game four victory for the championship. His seven straight years with at least 20 saves is a pro yakyu record. Unfortunately, his command in 2007 was horrible, relegating him to a lot of time in the minors. Signed with Cleveland after qualifying for free agency, receiving a two year deal at three million per, but the command issue brought his MLB career to a short conclusion, as he was released in July, 2009. It was actually a surprise he went to MLB because he refused to go to Australia when Lotte held their spring training there due to his statements about supposedly not being comfortable with being in foreign countries. Yomiuri signed him during that offseason. Released by Yomiuri at the end of the 2010 season and picked up by Orix. Fastball up around 94mph with a shuuto and slider. But he leaves that shuuto up too much and that is when he has trouble. Selected to four all star teams (2000-2001, 2005-2006). Official Blog    Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Started playing baseball in fifth grade. Set a then Tokyo Metropolitan University League record with 111 strikeouts in a season (spring 1990).It was also a Japanese collegiate record at the time. His 394 total strikeouts is still the league record. Also took two league MVP awards and was selected to two league Best Nine squads. Threw a shutout against a U.S. collegiate all star squad, earning him the tournament MVP. Went 28-14 with a 1.45 ERA in 63 games for his collegiate career. Drafted on the first round as a lottery pick by Lotte in 1990, but he turned their offer down and went to the industrial leagues. Lotte hasn't drafted a player from Asia University since then because of this and got Koike got blasted in the press by fellow Asia University alumnus Shingo Takatsu and endured fierce booing by Lotte fans everytime he pitched against them. It has to be said, though, that Lotte was warned he wouldn't sign with them if they picked him, but they apparently thought he would fold. Had elbow issues in the industrial leagues, diminishing pro interest in him. Kintetsu drafted him again on the first round in 1992 and, humbled, he gratefully signed. Traded to Chunichi as part of a multiplayer deal. Released by Chunichi and re-signed by Kintetsu. Went to a sidearm delivery. He then went to Rakuten in the expansion draft. He was released at the end of the 2005 season and became a player coach with Hideo Nomo's team. Selected to one all star team (1999). Hobby is pachinko.  Official Blog    Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
