Biography: Went 12-8 in 31 games in college with a 1.80 ERA with two MVPs and a pair of Best Nine nominations. Turned down an offer from Seattle and was drafted on the first round amid allegations from MLB sources that he received under the table money (2002). Had shoulder surgery in July, 2005. Lead the Eastern League in wins and strikeouts (2009). Threw in the low 90's with a forkball, but because of command problems, especially with his slider, he changed his delivery in 2007 and that slowed the heater to the high 80's. His number was changed in 2007, not by his choice, to encourage him to become Yomiuri's answer to Tom Seaver. Traded to Orix during the 2009 offseason. Selected to two all star teams (2003, 2010). Married his high school sweetheart. Is reportedly a history buff. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Father managed in the industrial leagues. Started playing baseball in third grade. Was his college team's ace. Selected to Japan's national collegiate all star squad twice and faced off against an all star university nine from the U.S., shutting them out. Went 23-11 for his career at Tohoku. Drafted on the first round (2006). First Lions rookie to win ten or more games since Daisuke Matsuzaka. Fastball tops out at 94mph, slider, curve, forkball, cutter and changeup. Pitched the Lions to their 4000th win since 1950 (8/11/2008 against Nippon Ham at Seibu Dome 3-0). Became the first man to strikeout a batter in every inning of a Japan Series game in 27 years and just the second all time, but the first to do it while spinning a shutout (Game Four, 2008). Is also the first man ever to rack up a strikeout in 12 consecutive Japan Series innings and would get himself the MVP (2008). Won 12 straight regular season decisions dating back to 2008 before finally losing in late May, 2009 against Chunichi. Was the only other Lion other than Matsuzaka to have three straight ten or more win seasons this century. Is also the first man ever to toss a shutout in his first career Japan Series start. Had 16 consecutive victories against Pacific League competition over the course of the 2008 and 2009 campaigns. Had a string of seven straight winning decisions in 2010 and extended his streak in night games to 13. Suffered some shoulder inflammation, though. His four straight 10 wins or more seasons to begin his career is a new team record and he is the first pitcher under the Seibu ownership to do it. Selected to one all star team (2009). Has absolutely owned Orix. Reportedly gets a bad case of nerves before each big game start to the point where he feels like he can just barely stand up. Then he goes out and wins. Is said to be so thin because he loses his appetite during Japan's steamy summers. Fastball tops out at 92 (was reportedly clocked at 94mph in college) with a big overhand curveball, slider and changeup. Is married. Reference: Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Started out playing baseball in first grade with a local youth team. Played nanshiki ball in junior high. Drafted on the third round (2005). Won a Wsstern League ERA title (2006). Did not surrender a homer in the bushes that season. Had back and groin problems in 2008. All four of his wins in 2008 were at Kobe Green Stadium. Started doing yoga during that offseason but nonetheless had some shoulder discomfort in May, 2009 and was out of action until July. Fastball around 90mph, slider and forkball and likes to throw inside and hesitates at the top of his windup like Daisuke Matsuzaka.  Official Blog  Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
