Biography: Is a cousin of Akihito Igarashi. Started playing baseball in second grade thanks to the influence of his older brother. Was his team's pitching ace in high school. Drafted on the first round (1986). Reportedly clocked as high as 96mph while with Yomiuri. Learned to throw a forkball from a pitcher named Pena while he was playing in Miami in A ball. Won the second game of the 1990 season in relief with a 12th inning sayonara homer against Yakult (4/8/1990 in the bottom of the 12th inning). 1000th inning  (8/13/2000 against Nippon Ham at Tokyo Dome). Selected to two all star teams (1990, 2006). His 16 years between all star berths is the longest ever. Had elbow surgery in September, 1997 and was subsequently traded to Orix.. Signed with Detroit after becoming a free agent during the 1998 offseason. Re-signed with Orix in June, 2000. Had one walkless complete game lifetime. Released by Orix following the 2001 campaign and sat out a year to heal a back problem. Signed with L.A. after the 2002 season. Was involved in an auto acccident, but fully recovered. He later pitched with Seattle. Played in three Koshien Tournaments, pitching his squad to the final in the second one, losing 1-0. Was clocked at 95mph as a schoolboy, but also suffered a back problem and a broken rib. Biography: Started out playing baseball in third grade. Became his high school team's ace as a sophomore. Struckout 18 in a game, albeit against a nobody school. Drafted on the second round (1992). Played in Taiwan in 1995 due to an agreement that Hiroshima hads with the China Taimes Eagles (now defunct). His 71 appearances in 2005 tied a then NPB record (t has since been eclipsed). Perhaps as a result, had shouder problems in 2002 to the point where he couldn't even hold a baseball. Traded to Orix durig the 2004 offseason. Hurt his elbow in 2007 but overcame it to have a pretty decent year. Traded to Hiroshima during the 2010 offseason. Suffered a calf pull during spring training, delaying the start of his 2011 season.
