Biography: Started out playing nanshiki ball in third grade with a local youth team and didn't begin playing hardball until high school, becoming his team's ace and cleanup hitter as a sophomore, garnering interest from clubs on both sides of the Pacific. Played in two Koshien Tournaments. Selected to Japan's national high school all star team. Drafted on the first round as a lottery pick (2005). Had some elbow and control problems in 2006 and only appeared in one minor league game that year and only four the next. After a promising 2008, he came down with a problem with his middle finger that shelved him for six weeks in 2009 and he had a lackluster campaign on the farm thereafter. In 2010, though, recovered to become a bullpen mainstay. Fastball tops out at 91mph and has good cuting action with a slow curve, two different sliders, a changeup and a forkball. Eats and writes righthanded. Married to wife Chiharu. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
