Biography: Started playing baseball in second grade. His high school made a trip to the U.S. his senior year and he was reportedly wooed by the Mariners. That overture was turned down and he pitched his squad to a Koshien Tournament appearance (summer 1994). Drafted on the first round (1994). Was the Opening Day hurler in 2001. He also started his team's first game at their new homeground of Sapporo Dome (2004). Also starte don Opening Day, 2006. Was injured after he hit Juliop Zuleta with a pitch and Zuleta charged the mound and was out the next three weeks (4/16/2006 against Softbank). He then got into a big public relations mess when he was pulled with the bases loaded in the fourth inning of this last start of the year by saying that manager Trey Hillman did it because foreign managers didn't care about individual accomplishments (he was going for his fifth straight ten win campaign), earning a suspension and a fine from the club. Traded to Hanshin during the 2007 offseason. Incurred a hanstring injury and missed the first three months of the 2008 schedule. Had a 14 consecutive decision winning streak against Orix (4/13/2004-9/10/2006). Selected to three all star teams (1998, 2004-2005). Fastball in the 80's, slider, curve, shuuto, palm ball and forkball and is said to  be a fine fielder. Signed with Samsung of the KBO after his release from Hanshin during the 2010 offseason. Married to wife Ayako, a former tv personality, and they have twin sons. Was also called "The Glass Ace" due to his being injury prone, missing most of 1999 with a shoulder problem and then hurt it again in 2000. Released by Hanshin at the end of the 2010 campaign and signed with Shinno of the Baseball Challenge League. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
