Biography: Never appeared on the mound while with Honda. He then graviated to the Shikoku Island League, joining the Kagawa Olive Guyners following a tryout, leading that circuit in wins in 2005 with 12 and then won 11 more games to lead his squad to the SIL title. Drafted on the second round (2006) and was put on the taxi squad. Was then added to the regular roster following an impressive spring training showing and made the opening day roster, but he got lit up and was demoted to the minors, where he pitched inconsistently. Released at the end of the 2008 campaign, whereupon he signed with the Niigata Albirex of the Baseball Challenge League. Throws in the high 80's with a slider, curve, shuuto and cutter. Biography: Won and MVP and was named to a Tokyo Metropolitan University League Best Nine squad.Drafted on the third round (2006). During spring training of 2009, went from an over the top delivery to a sidearm one even after two very good seasons in the Eastern League. Got taken deep by the first batter he faced in his big club debut, Jose Fermandez. Forgot his uniform before a start and had to wear Brian Sweeney's jersey to take the hill in a losing effort (7/7/2009 against Seibu at Seibu Dome). He was then demoted to the minors, but later brought back up. Notched an Eastern League ERA title in 2010. Had elbow surgery in October, 2011 to have some loose cartilage removed. Reportedly tops out at 92mph with a slider, forkball and a changeup. Is going to have to find a way to avoid the home run ball. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Started out playing baseball in first grade. Was born a lefthander, but learned to throw righthanded because everyone else on his team were righties. Was a Seibu fan growing up. Drafted on the fifth round (1999). Set a team record with 12 straight wins right out of the box in 2004. Was named to an NPB all star team and tossed seven innings of one run ball against an MLB all star nine to pick up a win (2004). Played on Japan's olympic baseball team at Athens. Went to Orix in the dispersal draft following the merger of Kintetsu with Orix, but he didn't want to play with the Kobe outfit and  and he was eventually sold to Rakuten. Had a much funker motion when he initially started in pro ball, but when so called "two step motions" were made illegal in order to conform to international baseball rules, he altered his delivery to a more conventional one. Was reportedly clocked at 95mph at the beginning of his career, but is more usually in the low 90's now with a dominant sinker, a slider, curve, shuuto and a forkball. Started Opening Day, 2005 and went all the way for the Eagles firsrt ever victory as a team. However, he then hurt his shoulder (which had also bothered him in 2004) and hen ended up with a career worst ERA as a result. He would then sit out most of the 2006 campaign with shoulder and mechanical issues. Was supposed to start on Opening Day, 2007 but hurt his back just before spring training ended. Subsequently sufferedn an obligue pull in May and was out the remainder of the first half. However, snagegd the Opening Day assignment in both 2008 and 2009 and in a no decision and a loss respectively. Became the first man to win 21 games in a season in 23 years (2008). He also had just under one-third of his team's victories that season. Was also the first man to surrender just three homers while spinning 200 innings in a season since 1958. Was the first man to win the Sawamura Award for a second division club since 1988. Was picked for Japan's WBC contingent in 2009 and was dominant, but lost out in the MVP voting to Daisuke Matsuzaka probably because the writers didn't know many of the players, so they picked the one they did know.. Is just one of five men ever to have struckout every batter he faced at least once in a game (9/1/2009 against Seibu at Miyagi Prefectural Stadium). 1000th inning (8/16/2008 against Lotte at Chiba Marine Stadium in the fourth inning). 100th win (8/31/2010 against Lotte at Chiba Marine Stadium in a start). Was posted after the 2010 season and Oakland, of all teams won the bidding with a surprsing $19 million offer. The A's then tendered him a ridiculous $3.8 million dollar a year four year take it or leave it contract and, of course, Iwakuma turned that down flat. Oakland refused to negotiate after that and Iwakuma was back in Sendai for 2011. The way the A's handled this fueled all kinds of speculation, ranging from collusion with the Golden Eagles to Oakland attempting to keep Iwakuma out of the hands of division rivals Texas and Seattle with an insincere offer, but none of that has been proven. In the aftermath, the Japanese players union called for a revision of the posting agreement that wil almost certainly make things more expensive for MLB teams wanting to acquire NPB players, thereby staining GM Billy Beene's record. Selected to three all star teams (2003-2004, 2008). Is married to the eldest daughter of former Seibu infielder Koju Hirohashi and they have a daughter and a son. He also quit smoking at the behest of his wife.  Official Homepage   Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Started playing baseball in second grade in Little League. Was mainly an outfielder in college before also being asked to pitch his senior year. Won a total of eight games during his collegiate career. Was solely a pitcher in the industrial leagues. Drafted on the second round (1998). Was used almost solely in a setup role until becoming a closer in 2005. In his only career start, went seven innings of one run, seven hit ball for a win (10/8/2000 against Hiroshima). His 46 saves in 2006 broke Kazuhiro Sasaki's previous all time single season record of 45. His 1.91career ERA was the lowest ever for any pitcher with more than 400 appearances. Features a fastball that maxes out at 92mph and a hard slider that will hit 86mph at times along with a splitter. His mechanics are so funky that his teammates have expected him to blow his shoulder out, but he has been relatively injury free except for things like falling down in the bathtub and waking up with a stiff neck. That has allowed him to become only the first man in NPB history to appear 50 times or more a year in his first ten years in the league. Chose the number 13 because it is the god of death in Tarot, he says. Was part of the 2004 Japanese olympic baseball team at Athens and was unscored upon. First man ever with three straight 40 save campaigns. 500th appearance (7/7/2007 against Hanshin at Nagoya Dome in the eighth inning, striking out all four men he faced for a save; he was third fastest all time to that mark) 600th appearance (5/28/2009 against Rakuten at Nagoya Dome in a ninth inning relief appearance). 700th appearance (5/17/2011 against Lotte at in a ninth inning relief appearance). 100th save (7/30/2006 against Yomiuri at Nagoya Dome). 200th save (5/12/2009 against Yakult at Nagaragawa Stadium). 250th save (6/16/2010 against Nippon Ham at Nagoya Dome, the third man ever to that mark). 300th save (9/3/2011 against Hiroshima at Matsuda Stadium). First man ever to finish off a perfect game when he replaced Daisuke Yamai in the ninth inning of game five of the 2007 Japan Series to wrap up the Dragons first championship in five decades. Didn't give up a walkoff homer until the 2008 season. Was selected for the Japanese olympic baseball squad at Beijing (2008). Holds the Dragons all time record for career appearances (set in 2009) and saves. Is the first Japanese southpaw ever to reach 200 career saves  His 313 saves is the  most all time. His seven straight seasons of 30 saves or more is an NPB record. His 745 relief appearances is the most all time. His 13 consecutive seasons with 50 appearances is a pro yakyu record. Is married with two children Selected to eight all star teams (2000-2001, 2003, 2005-2007, 2010-2011). Is already qualified for entrance into the Meikyukai and is a sure fire future hall of famer.
