Biography: Father was a U.S. G.I. who split fairly eearly on, leaving his Japanese mother to raise Hideki herself. Played Boys League while also often receiving taunts for being a "half." Played in two Koshien Tournaments (1986-1987). Drafted on the first round (1987). Was clocked at a then record 158km/h (98mph) on May 3, 1993 against Seibu with Kazuhiro Kiyohara at the plate. Threw three wild pitches in an inning to set a Japan record (9/28/1994). Started on Opening Day, 1995. But in the 1996 offseason, after Lotte had signed a working agreement with San Diego, Irabu wanted to go to the big leagues, Lotte were going to trade him to the Padres, but he wanted to play for the Yankees and it turned into a big controversy. He finally got his way after missing spring training, signing a $12.8 million dollar deal with New York in May, 1997. He was clocked at 99mph in a minor league game and then started against Detroit and went 6.2 innings to earn a win. Yankees pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre changed some of Irabu's mechanics to conform better to MLB rules and Irabu looked liked a completely different guy than he had been in Japan, rarely hitting his customary mid to high 90's as a result. He never hit his stride in the big leagues, had injury problems, including a blood clot in a lung he suffered while with Texas, and opted to return to Japan after his temper and lack of success made him one of the jokes of baseball. Had a decent 2003 with Hanshin, helping them to a pennant, but he was lit up in the Japan Series, and the following season he got injured again and never recovered, which got him released at the end of the 2004 campaign. Reportedly lives in L.A. with his wife and daughter. But Irabu's problems should have been foreseen, since he had substaintial character questions even while he was with Lotte and despite the quality of his stuff at that time, he just didn't seem to be mentally cutout to be a solid MLB pitcher. 1000th strikeout in Japan (5/17/1996 against Nippon Ham at Chiba Marine Stadium in 997.1 innings, only the third in history to reach that figure in less than 1000 innings). Played in four all star games (1994-1996, 2003). Had two walkless complete games lifetime. Was arrested at 5:00 a.m. in an Osaka bar after they refused to take one of his credit cards and he went off after consuming a large quantity of beer with an old friend of his, kicking chairs, throwing bottles and assaulting a bar employee. He confessed to the crime after police showed up (8/20/2008). In 2009, decided to make a comeback attempt and, after playing in the Golden Baseball League with the Long Beach Armada for a spell, he signed with the Kochi Fighting Dogs of the Shikoku-Kyushu Island League. He retired sometime after that. He was found dead of an apparent suicide in his home in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. According to a Japense report, he was found by members of an amateur team he had been coaching after he didn't show up for a barbecue. Moreover, there had been no contact with him for at least four days before that. Reference: Wikipedia Japan    Official Blog

Biography: Satoshi Iriki's younger brother. Started playing baseball in third grade. Won 23 games as a collegian. Had a circulatory problem his senior year in college and that caused Japan's pro team's to pass on drafting him. So he went to the industrial leagues. Drafted on the first round (1996). Started game one of the 2001 all star series and was relieved by his brother with two outs in the third inning, the first time in Japanese history one brother had spelled another during the mid-summer classic. Traded to Nippon Ham during the 2003 offseason. Signed with the Mets during the 2005 offseason and tested positive for a banned substance in April 2006, leading to a 50 game suspension. Was confined to the minors and then was picked up by Toronto, who sent him to AA. Was released after the 2007 season and signed by Yokohama after a tryout. Became a batting practice pitcher with Yokohama after retirement. Selected to one all star team (2001). Threw in the high 80's. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan    Official Homepage

Biography:  Started playing baseball in second grade as a pitcher. Plyed short in junior high before going back to pintching as a high school junior as a reliever. His older brother Akio was drafted on the second round by the aTiyo Whales in 1986, but due to the death of his father decided to not join the club. He later played catcher and managed for Tokyo Gas' industrial league squad. Takashi was clocked at a high of 94mph in the industrial leagues, which garnered him attention from pro scours. Drafted on the first round (1993). Was initially used as a reliever before becoming a starter in 1998. Once went three straight years without losing to Daiei. Hit int the head by a line drive off the bat of former Lion Koji Akiyama. Fortunately, he didn't sustain a serious injury (5/2000). Had shoulder problems in 2003-2004. Won two games in the 2004 Japan Series and was named MVP. He was the first man ever to win more games in a Japan Series than he had won during that regular season. One pitch win (8/1/2006 against Lotte). Is known to be rather eccentric. Selected to three all star teams (1997, 1999, 2000). Became a pitching coach with Seibu after retirement.
