Biography: Father is Iranian and is a former pro soccer player while his mother is Japanese. He is a Muslim, but loves pork cutlet and once confessed to using pages of the Koran when he ran out of toilet paper. The story goes that when he was three, his father placed a baseball, a basketball and a soccer ball before him and he immediately picked the baseball. He started playing organized baseball in second grade before moving on to Boys League and pitching in a world championship tournament. However, he also caught a lot of flack about not being "really Japanese." Played in four Koshien Tournaments (spring, summer 2003-2004). Threw a no hitter against mighty Kumamoto Kogyo High at Koshien (spring, 2004). Was scouted by the Mariners, but chose to stay in Japan. His final high school line was 67 appearances, 332.1 innings, 375 K and a 1.10 ERA. His Koshien ERA in 12 appearances was 1.47. Drafted on the first round (2004). Started his career in the minors after suffering an inflammation of the knee during spring training. He was also suspended for a bit and ordered to do community service by the team after being caught smoking (the age of adulthood in Japan is 20) by one of the weekly gossip magazines.Had to wear Tomoya Yagi's unform during a start against Seibu at Seibu Dome because he had left his road uni at home in Sapporo (7/7/2006). Started on Opening Day four times and is just one of five men all time to go all the way in four consecutive such occasions (2007-2010). Named MVP of the Asia Series (2006) and the Pacific League playoff final (2007). Is only one of two pitchers ever to have back to back 14 or more strikeout games (3/30/2007 and 4/7/2007). Knocked up his girlfriend, an actress named Saeko, shortly after they met and they got married. They have since had two kids. Also generated a lot of publicity, most of it positive, when he did a nude shoot for a woman's magazine. Unfortunately, the time required for Saeko to handle her business interests reportedl eventually yresulted in friction between the two, as he wanted her to act more like a conventional housewife, and she eventualy moved out and he was said not to have been posted at the end of the 2010 season due to the initiation of divorce proceedings. Tossed the first ever 1-0 ten strikeouts or more opening day shutout in Japanese history (3/20/2008 against Lotte at Sapporo Dome, a four hitter). It was also the first opening day shutout by a Nippon Ham pitcher since 1999. Named to Japan's WBC squad in 2009, where he was inconsistent, but was the winning pitcher in the final after initially blowing a save. In 2010, opened the season with five straight ten strikeouts or more games,. an NPB record. He is also just the third man to have such a streakat anytime in the season in Japanese history. Had the third worst run support of any pitcher in the Pacific League qualifying for the ERA title in 2010 and it cost him the Sawamura Award and the Best Nine nominations even though his overall stats were far superior to those of the winners and becoming the first pitcher with four straight sub-2.00 ERA seasons since hall of famer Kazuhisa Inao in 1959. Selected to three all star teams (2007-2009). Repetoire is everything but the screwball and he has been clocked around 95-96mph. However, does not hold runners very well. However, his 3.95 batters faced per inning is extraordinarily low. Official Homepage   Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Moved a lot as a kid because of his father's job. Started playing baseball in second grade in Hiroshima as a catcher and outfielder. Won 24 games (against ten losses) for his college career, 11 of them coming his sophomore year. Had elbow surgery his junior campaign and didn't pitch at all, but returned for a strong senior session. Drafted on the first round (2002). Went to a sidearm delivery after the 2003 season and also picked up the shuuto. He was then tried as a starter in 2004 as well as 2005 and would be fine for the first few innings and then get drilled or his side wouldn't score runs for him. Traded in April, 2006 to Lotte. Released by Lotte at the end of the 2007 season. Married one of the daughters of former Lotte infielder Yoshihiro Iizuka, but that union was very shortlived. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan

Biography: Played in one Koshien Tournament (summer 1993). Drafted on the fourth round (1997). In his first go around with Seibu, was largely used as a lefthand specialist. Traded to Yokohama in 2004. Owned Yomiuri, at one point winning eight straight decisions against them. However, he wasn't so hot against anyone else in the CL. Had back problems in 2007 and then began 2008 with five consecutive losses, resulting in him being sent down to the minors never to return. Released after the 2008 campaign and picked up by Seibu. Fastball in the high 80's with a slider, shuuto and changeup. Reference:  Wikipedia Japan
