Biography: Started out playing baseball in elementary school. Didn't start seriously pitching until high school. Won a total of 20 games in college. Drafted on the third round (2005). Hurt his righ knee during the Eagles fall camp in 2006 and had surgery on it. Biography: Started playing baseball in second grade as a catcher. Became a pitcher in fourth grade.Was a victim of an auto accident when he was in elementary school and spent most of his junior high years with a plate in one leg. Has suffered three right le and one left leg fracture since. Ws goig to join the boxing program at Konan High School, but there was some irregularity with his paperwork and he decided instead to go to Okinawa Suisan and stick with baseball. Played in two Koshien Tournaments (spring, summer 1998). Was clocked at 94mph in one of those tournaments, but lost in the first game both times. Was drafted on the first round by Orix, but turned them down because he wanted to play for Daiei and went to college instead. The scout handling the negotiations killed himself by jumping off the balcony of his hotel room. Was clocked at 97mph in college while going 23-5 with a 1.01 ERA for his career there. Drafted on the first round (2002). Suffered an ankle injury in August, 2003 and missed the rest of the regular season. Contracted appendicitis in late September of 2006 and while he made himself available to pitxh, he was sat out. Added a shuuto in 2007 to go along with his fastball, slider, forkball and cutter. Tied a pro yakyu record with four wild pitches in a game (4/17/2007 against Rakuten at Miyagi Prefectural Stadium). His 25 wild pitches in 2007 is a pro yakyu record. He subsequently set a new pro yakyu record with five wild pitches in a single game (8/20/2008 against Seibu at Seibu Dome). Had elbow surgery to remove loose cartilage during the 2008 offseason. Sent down to the minors after a horrendous beginning to the 2009 campaign and languished there the rest of the schedule. Is married to Toshiya Sugiuchi's wife's younger sister. Biography: Struckout 23 in a game in college. Also had good speed, so was often used as a pinch runner. Possessed a good hard, rising fastball and a sharp curve ball. Threw a complete game against an MLB all star team, something that wouldn't be done by a Japanese for another 51 years (1953). Selected to five all star teams (1953-1957). Had 25 walkless complete games. Coached with Hankyu and Yakult after retirement. 100th win (10/8/1955, the 22nd to that mark).1000th strikeout (7/9/1959, the 15th in history to do it).
